Been looking at the PJ Tilts. Trying to get a consensus as to whether they have improved their quality process. So many manufacturers have cheapened their product line to the bone.CM

Downside to a PJ is the powder coating they use. It comes off in big hunks after a couple of years.

2X on the powder coat, but it appears to me that Kaufman may be the only one still using paint. Kaufman looks to me to be a superior product. I have been able to minimize the rust damage to my PJ with an hour of rust converter and paint work every other year.

My PJ deckover is 7 years old and the only place the powder coat is coming off is where ramps touch ground and were chains have tore it off (which I repaint ). Trailer set out still looks like new. PJ has two places that they built at the time I bought mine. They have a plant in Ohio or Penn. and plant in Texas. The plant out east had problems with powder coat when I bought mine and dealer I went through got my trailer out of Texas.

Mine's a 2014 and it has ben shedding paint since I got it. About all gone now. Worst part is the DOT reflective tape comes off with it.

Like I said mine was built in Texas and it is seven years old. I soak the wood deck once a year with oil.

I have a 20' T6 that is 6 years old. No powder coat issues, top quality build IMO. I hated the gravity tilt so I added a 12V hydraulic pump and valve to the existing cylinder to make it a power tilt.

I m surprised to hear this. I own a 2015 PJ 14k equipment trailer and a 2018 utv trailer. Now neither is super old yet but both have great paint finishes and top quality components. Both tow very nice as well. My previous trailer was a 2010 Kaufman 20ft equipment trailer and it was the absolute worst trailer I ever had. Not only was the paint thin and rusted quickly but it towed horribly. I took it back after the second week of ownership due to how jerky and bad it pulled and was told to take it next door to have it looked at. This was at their Lexington NC factory so figured part of their repair group. When I got there I see this old small white building and it ends up being a private repair shop. So I explain my situation and that my sales rep from Kaufman told me to bring it by as it was just a couple weeks old. He takes it back and without telling me welds up the adjustable hitch portion of the trailer saying that s the cause and is also a safety concern. I was shocked at what he said then he tried to charge me $80 for the supposedly repair job. I called the sales rep back and was told nothing they could do. I was beyond ------ off at this point and left messages with manager but never a single returned call. Decided to take it to a local shop and was told something on the suspension was way to tight. Once it got trailer back and after another $80-$100 it finally pulled correctly. But within next 2 years I had 2 out of 4 blown tires. Decided to replace last 2 before loosing them as well. I called Kaufman on the tires and was shocked when told they use cheap Chinese tires but I could have upgraded to a better Chinese or USA made tire. I mean really? The trailer was almost $4000. Needless to say I will never own another Kaufman product and live just 15-20 minutes from the factory. Was one of the worst buying experiences I ve had and service support was horrid. Hopefully things are different now but they will never get another dime from me.
