securing the tractor

I like chain but I have used straps before . If the tractor is under 10,000 pounds it only needs 2 chains two 5:16 grade 70 chains would do with over center binders . Over ten thousand pounds you are supposed to have 4 chains and binder

As SV cummins says you only need 2 chains and 2 binders under 10,000 lbs. I still like the 4 chains and 4 binders under !0,000 lbs. and use a 3/8" grade 70 chain. The 3/8 is rated at 6,600 lbs. and 5/16 is rated at 4,700 lb. I have both overcenter and ratchet binders but have went to using ratchets on tractors but still carry the over center with me. I am not a fan of the two chain set up. I have been at shows and pulls and seen guys come in with one of chains loose.

Won't go wrong with a 4 point tie down. Chains or straps rated for the weight. Ratchet binders won't bounce loose like over center can. Remember: "barely enough is not enough ".

When in doubt throw another chain on it . I use a four foot cheater on my binders and they don?t come loose .

Don't get me wrong I have used over center binders for years but have found that the ratchet binder does away with that one binder is little tighter than the one on the other side. I made me a cheater bar years ago and carry it on trailer all the time.I have to padlock it so it doesn't get feet and walk off.

That?s a nice bar . A guy can get a ratchet binder a lot tighter a lot easier than with a snap type that?s for sure

Gary, there are a lot of people that have the idea that anything that is on tracks or wheels or is made of iron or steel needs to be chained down. That is an old trucker's tale. You cannot find anything to support that in any of the regulations. What matters is that whatever you use that it be done properly. If you are going to be chaining them you need chain of the adequate size and strength rating. The same goes for straps. Your tractor is easily below the 10,000 lb. size and number threshold. If you have yet to buy what you are going to use it would be good to familiarize yourself with the ratings before going to the store. If you are going to use straps you would be wise to get some abrasion protection sleeves at the same time.
