What year was your Z71? My 97 GMC K1500 with 5.7 vortec needed transmission and I asked about putting in a 4L80E and was told
it wouldn't fit.

Yes it will physically fit but it is by no means a straight bolt in.

-Different cross member
-Drive shaft length
-Re flash computer
-Wiring
-Sensors and a long list of other little things.

Not a bad job if you have a donor parts truck but would be pricey if you had to buy everything new.

97 K 1500 with 6.5 diesel came factory with 4L80 as did most K 2500 and K3500 trucks with the 5.7, 6.5 and 7.4

GM dealer said that that transmission would not work on a 97 K1500 because of it being a 4 wheel drive.
