Electric over Hydraulic Brakes

I have a 14K trailer with electric over hydraulic brakes, the brakes have good power, but they are a little late to react to the
foot brake. The truck is a RAM 2500 with a built in controller that has a setting for electric over hydraulic brakes. Does anyone
have any experience with these? Is there a way to make the brakes react quicker without making them brake to hard?

Thanks
Rich

We went from all electric drum brakes to hydraulic disk brakes on our big trailer. Was the best mover we made. We went with the Kodiac brand and it has a pump that is activated by the truck controller. Doesn't seem to be any lag time when brakes are applied. You could lock them all up if you set the controller to do it.

Your description fits what the O.P. is inquiring about.

Have you made sure ther is no water or air in your system?
Either will cause a delay as the pump has to build pressure and it takes longer if the fluid is contaminated.
Make sure of no leaks anywhere.

You say your controller has a setting for E over H brakes....
Does it also have sensitivity adjustment when in that mode?
You should also be able to manually operate the trailer brakes via the controller so as to stop the train using only the trailer brakes.

I have bled the brake lines, but I can do it again.
I am not losing any fluid from the reservoir, nor do I see any leaks anywhere, but I can look again.
The pump is new, with power coming from an onboard battery and the signal coming from the truck.
The controller does have an adjustment but when I turn it up the delay is still there and the brakes lock up.
The brakes are significantly better than electric brakes, if they would just start braking a little quicker.

Thanks

Are the brakes adjusted properly? If they are too loose, you have to pump extra fluid to move the shoes out against the drums before any braking action takes place which could possibly cause the delay.

When you got the new pump, did you match it to the brakes on trailer?
i.e. drum or disc brakes?
And sized properly?
Did you convert the trailer brakes from electric to hyd. or was it that way already?

Also, if you can manually activate the brakes by hand, is the delay still evident?

This trailer was originally vacuum over hydraulic.

I did not see any sizes listed for the electric over hydraulic actuators.

Drum brakes.

I will have to try manual actuation.

Thanks
Rich
