Trailer size

Looking for answer for one question and opinions on a second . First-are the dimensions listed for a 16' trailer the length of the bed only or the length from tongue ending to back edge of trailer. Secondly- Is a 16' trailer adequate to transport a John Deere A tractor or should one go larger.

The answer to both questions is, depends. Usually 16' means bed length, but always check. And 16' is short for a full size tractor and so it will depend on axle placement and tractor balance. If your tractor is without ballast and extra weight you should be able to haul it fine. If the rear tires have fluid and/or weights it might get hard to balance a 16' trailer right. Also check width, an A is going to need to be set narrow to fit in a trailer with sides.

It's an unsyled A with no extra weights or fluids. It's just a show-parade tractor; way too slow for drives. I guess for the price difference a better choice would be the 18' trailer. Thanks for your info

I have a 10000 lb capacity SureTrac 16' trailer that I use for a track Bobcat and smaller mini excavator. I also haul my Massey Harris tractors on it, 44, 44 Special and a 444. All have the heavy cast wheels on the back but no fluid. The tractors all balance fine and the trailer pulls very well. I like the 16' trailer as it isn't too long and easy to turn etc. If you have any attachments to haul too, then longer is the way to go.

Are you going utility trailer with the fenders or deck over trailer? There is just a little over $500.00 difference in price.

16' plenty long for that tractor, just get 2- 3,500# axles. And all bumper pull trailers I have seen it is bed length, now a bumper pull camper is measured from front of hitch so the body is actully 3-4' shorter than stated length. I grew up with a 38 unstyled JD A and spoke wheels cut down to 11x38" rubber, current sise 12.4x38, that would be lighter weight than the cast disk that was avaible.

If all your going to haul is that tractor a trailer with fenders will be fine. If your going to haul other stuff the deck over will work better. I was going to buy one with fenders and changed my mine so you might want to think about it.

I have a 18ft with a 2 ft dove tail. It is a good length,it gives you room to move things around for balance.IMO 3500#(7000# total) is just too small. I really wish I had bought a 10,000# trailer, you get bigger tires and brakes. My next one will be a 14,000# bumper pull.

There are plenty of choices mine had to be a 14,000lb bumper pull for the brakes, a deckover for tractor width with plows, 24' again tractor with plows. Started out with 18' low boy but fenders would not allow getting balance without driving up on fenders.
