A friend inherited these tools and would like to know what they are for. I have an idea , but your thoughts are going to be interesting. Third Party Image

The correct term is Punch Needle. About 1/2 way through this demo it is shown very well. The adjustable slide on the wooden tool is to set punch depth allowing a consistent pile height from the back side to the front. I hope this helps. Jim

My mom had one, but I can't remember how she used it or the name of it. She was a rugmaker, sometimes braided rugs but mostly loom woven rugs. It had to have been for the braided rugs. The loom rugs were simply woven to length with the warp tied on the ends. That thing is around here somewhere, but I couldn't lay my hands on it quickly to save my life.

Jim, I don't remember Mom having the small tool of the two in your picture, but it wouldn't have caught my eye like the bigger one. She made some hooked rugs too. She made and sold hundreds of rugs.

I have one of those somewhere. It came from my uncle's farm and I believe it was to sew gunny sacks closed. When you filled a bag with grain you took that tool with some string and you could stitch the bag shut.
