My Dad was an avid woodworker and general all around fixer. My BIL and I split up his tools and I had forgotten about this one in a drawer in my shop. I remember using it as a kid.

One was used by Dan Ackroyd in the Blue Brothers movie. He used it to open the elevator panel.

That's where you lock it and turn like a regular screwdriver.

Yes lock it and still have a way oversize screwdriver to do the work of some thing one fourth its size. Should have scraped it years sooner. Dad never liked it either but as it was his why I did not scrap it.

Had one, did not get used because you could not push hard enough to get it to turn the screw. Never knew a name for them. Was left when I left the farm.

One very small part of my inheritance, pictured. Dad was a farmer, built Army vehicles at Ford Motor plant during WWII, ran a service station, mechanic-ed for United Auto Transport, did trucking, house moving, wrecker service, opened a wrecking yard, died under a truck. With all he did, he left my brother & I a literal ton of tools.

I too was a woodworker and remolded a few homes in my younger days. I've given my boy all the wood tools he has room for. I glad to see my son taking up my old hobby.

My son was a carpenter and had worked in a cabinet. he was really skilled and I gave him a lot of my woodworking too after I did more metal work. After he passed he left everything (except for his tractor) to his good friend. Mike asked me if I wanted anything back but he had been such a help when my son was gravely ill I let him keep it all.

Parents aren't supposed to outlive their kids.
Sorry for your loss. Losing my wife was hard. I don't know how I would handle losing my kids or grandkids. SORRY!

We used them in high school shop, but they were all chromed including the handle. I think they called them Yankee drills. Very handy. I always wanted one. That one is a family heirloom.

A Yankee drill!

My late Uncle, an electrician, always had one in his toolbox.
