''These two (Continental N62) engines came out of Massey Harris pony tractors, but the same engine was used in Allis Chalmers ''G'' Tractors...''

Ummm, kinda.

The N62s used by AC had a large starter hole and threaded holes for the starter mounting bolts machined into an enlarged area on the integral bellhousing flange that is completely lacking on the <M-H> version. If you install a Pony block in a ''G'', you have no place to mount a starter. If you mount a ''G'' block in a pony, you could theoretically mount two starters, the ''G'' style starter on the lower engine side of the flange (facing forward), and the torque-tube, top mounted ''pony'' starter (hanging backwards) over the bellhousing!

Of course the machining processes- and the commonly bent crankshafts (only 2 main bearings!!)- would be the same for both versions of the N62.
