Daughters car quit on her and had
to be towed home. I spent the
weekend trying to get it running
with no luck. It would sorta run if
you cranked it at half throttle but
with no control. Replaced throttle
body cause I had one. Hooked up the
handy dandy scan tool Hobo
recommended and it couldn't find
anything but o2 lean but I could
smell unburned fuel after a couple
minutes.

Talked to the head mechanic at the
Ford place this morning and he
recommended checking the maf sensor
and purge valve. He had one that
was towed in with a bug in the
sensor keeping it from running.
Sure enough I pulled the maf sensor
and there was a bug inside. Tapped
it out and reinstalled and she runs
perfect again. I never would have
thought a bug would keep a car from
running!

Could you have purchased a MUCAR CDE900. If so how do you like it?
I got one on the recommendation too and gave it to family member who never gives me an
evaluation.

I've only used it a few times so I'm still learning. It takes some time but you can see pert near everything that's going on in real time. Reminds me of the scopes garages used to use only with a lot more features. First time use you'll wonder why you blew so much money on it since the el cheapo code reader is so much faster. It's when you want to test everything it shines.

Kinda disappointed it didn't pick up a fault with the maf sensor. They need to add a bug detector in the next update. Lol

You'd think it would run rich or lean, not dead. Must have a design bug too.

I've encountered the ''bug in the MAF'' issue twice.

Check the fitment/seal of the air filter and piping.

Something's not sealing or the bug wouldn't have been in there.

M-Man , Thank you for reply. I am pretty sure CDE900 is far better than what I am using. Getting the job done is more important to to me than speed.

Yep, filter had deformed top seal.
My guess is the oil change place
she uses got a little aggressive
cleaning it. I put a new Ford
filter in it. And I showed her how
to remove and clean the sensor
should it happen again!

Common occurrence. The MAF senses air flow by how quickly a hot film or hot wire cools from the air rushing over it. With a bug in it, that sensor won't be able to accurately detect airflow. Then the ECM or PCM or ECU (whichever acronym that manufacturer uses) adds too much or too little fuel to the mixture, causing no start or stall condition.

First glad you got it repaired. No code drivability is a art form that's why some of us get the big bucks. The info was there you did not know how to interpret it are run test. Its not your day job in my world your man gave you a common tip... Life is good.
