Don't you love doing unnecessary work?

Because of a tool.

The AC on my pickup truck stopped working last summer. Luckily it also had engine problems so I barely got to drive it anyway.

I could not get the high pressure coupler from my AC manifold set to clip on to the line. It appeared to have been mangled by the dealer when they "checked" the AC during a routine oil change.

Ordered a new high pressure line, o-ring kit, expansion valve, and desiccant pack. Finally got around to putting it all in yesterday.

Go to put the gauges on the truck, and the high pressure still won't go on the port! Plugs right on the tractor no problem, but wouldn't engage on the truck.

Turns out there was nothing wrong with the old line. A dab of fluid film on the o-ring and it popped right on. Pulled a vacuum, put in two small cans of R134, and it blows cold again.

Of course the torque converter is coming apart and has probably destroyed the transmission, and the 4x4 stopped working...

But, it gets better after the 2nd or 3rd
time.

Lost power at home for a bit and the genny
came on. Afterwards I didn't have power to
1/2 garage outlets or door operators.
Thought 1: breaker. Nope, closed. Thought
2: GFCI. Checked every outlet. None.
Commented that was odd since it shoild
have been code. Thought 3: breaker has
failed so I replaced it. No joy. Returned
to thought 2 and located an outlet behind
a shelf that was GFCI for those outlets.
Reset and all good. But why oh why didn't
I listen to myself the first time through.

Went through that several years ago, big 2 story house, fairly new, all built to code, supposedly...

Lost power in 2 bathrooms, one on first floor, and one above it. Two days of searching, pulling receptacles, checking breakers, tracing wiring (not easy on a 2 story!) Finally found a tripped GFI receptacle INSIDE a closet (code violation) that powered the outlets in both baths.

Couple years ago our youngest called me asking about possible reasons some of the outlets in their condo weren't working. I explained GFI and outlets protected on load side. He found an outside GFI was tripped and some of the outlets inside were connected to it.

I always thought that it should be required to list GFI location on the main panel with permanent marker or a tag. Low cost and very handy. I always used a GFI breaker a little costlier but less issues down the road. At least you know where it is.

In 1985 I wired a GFI breaker for the bathroom.
Never again. It's a BPIA going to the basement to rest it.

I bought a 2016 GMC 2500 with Duramax last October. Everything worked great. I did not drive it during winter road salt season. 3 weeks ago we went on a trip to
Detroit area and the air conditioner did not work. I took it to a local shop after we got back home and it took him 5 minutes to tell me part of the air
compressor clutch was missing. Seems GM did not put Loctite on the bolt that holds the clutch components on and is a well known problem for 2015 and early 2016.
I bet you got off cheaper than I did. I went with a NEW compressor with clutch, to the tune of $1014. Dealer where I bought it was no help either.
