Hydraulic hose fittings

I have 3 implements that take 10 ft hydraulic hoses so I was going to make a universal hydraulic hose and presumed the fittings were 1/2 npt. I removed the hose from the cylinder and my 1/2 pipe nipple will not thread into the cylinder so I can attach my male Hyd coupling, however the female coupling will screw onto the hose. It does seem a little loose. Is there a metric pipe fitting that close to 1/2 inch?

Unless the machine is made overseas, it is not likely to be Metric.

Most likely it's an ORB (o-ring boss) type fitting. Look at the old hose you took out of the cylinder carefully. Does it have an o-ring stuck to it? Does the port on the cylinder have a machined groove around the edge of the hole? It's ORB. You need an adapter to NPT then you can use the same hose.

Are you trying to be able to move the hose from machine to machine to machine? Or just have the same hose for all the machines so you can have a spare on hand? The former is messy and will cost you more in hydraulic oil than just buying hoses for each machine.

My plan was to be able to move hose from machine to machine and I was putting couplings on each end of the hose so I wouldn't lose fluid.

My equipment is all old and the hoses are deteriorating, they will have to be replace as they start to leak. Never use 2 pieces of equipment at the same time so 1 set of hoses will work.

I need to be able to put a male coupling on the cylinder and a female on the hose. The hose already has a male on one end.

In addition to the advise already given, I would suggest you put quick coupler on both ends of you hoses, and on your implements. You can find them pretty reasonably priced online. and you won't have the mess every time you change over.

Most cylinders are either 1/2 in. Pipe or use ORB fittings , post a pic. Easy to tell them.

I would invest in some adapters. And use the 1/2 npt hose. Adapters are reusable and if wreck hose, premade 1/2 npt hoses are available almost everywhere affordably.

By the time you buy all the quick connects youll find it almost as cheap to buy hose for each implement. The farm stores sell hose thats pretty cheap Ive been using them for quite a few years the local dealer cheapened up on the hose they carry and they upped the price the Apache brand hose is a third the cost and better hose

That seems like an awful lot of messing around.
I would just buy hoses for each cylinder or have one cylinder and keep it with the tractor

Thanks, I knew you guys would help me.

All my hoses are weathered and one has failed, six 10ft hoses are near $300.00. I was going to make one set that I could use on all three and I could store them in the shop where they wouldn't weather. Machines are used 2-3 hours a year to plant food plots.

I have to check further, but I think the cylinder is 1/2 ORB. I have found a nipple that is 1/2NPT to 1/2 ORB.

Cost of venison just went up ...again!
