Liftmaster 1/2 hp. Just quit working. Won't work with remote or manual switch I checked sensors and the lights are on. When I use manual switch I can hear click in overhead unit. Any ideas?

How old is the opener? Fixing a really old one that is used several times daily may only be a temporary solution. If it has failed early check the assist springs on the door, the door should be easy to open and well balanced to reduce the load on the opener or a person manually opening the door.

I have good luck simply replacing the opener with the same brand and type, then it is good for another twenty years or more. Reuse all the old mounts, old sensors, old wall switch, old door brackets, etc. With the door closed, disconnect the door bracket from the track, disconnect the wires from the head unit, lower the head unit to the floor, unpin the track end from the wall, reinstall the new head and track, reconnect the wires and adjust the stops. This is much quicker and easier then uninstalling and replacing every bit of hardware between different brands.

You should be able to go to door opener Co. and buy just the head ! Sometimes they have some rebuilt units
evaluable Done it several times myself Jim in New Mexico .

I had bad sensors even though they had a red and
green light. Try replacing the sensors.
Clean them first.

I have cleaned sensors. I wonder if there is a way to bypass sensors to test? Unit is 16 years old. I guess time to replace.

I have a stick with 2 sensors mounted on it abut 4 feet apart with aligator clips to just hook up and test the unit. Will it open if you hold down on the switch of the opener in the garage?

I was told to hold down on the manual button to
bypass the sensors and close the door.

It should go up without using sensors.

I wouldn't spend too much time or money trying to
fix it, just buy a new one that is the same
model. Get the cheapest one without a remote
keypad. Use the old remotes.

I does nothing. Light on sensors come on. The unit clicks when wall button or remote is pushed. 110v light doesn't come on either.

Check the light on the back the back of unit and count the number of blinks. That will give you the trouble code, then lookup code on
liftmaster web site if you dont have the manual. You can unplug the unit to reset it and see if it will work again.
