windshield chip repair

Have a small rock chip spot in car windshield. About half the size of a kernel of wheat. No cracks...yet. YouTube has some videos on it, doesn't look to difficult. Have any of you used one of these resin chip repair kits and how did it work for you?

I haven t used that product, but I have had several chips repaired. Some repairs have been excellent (repair is virtually unnoticeable) and others satisfactory (repair was better but was noticeable).
My insurance company paid for the repairs 100% at a windshield shop. You might want to check with your insurance company.

I have never used those kits. But I had a decent chip done by one of those pro outfits and it didn't
even last a day until it split.
Yours doesn't sound bad enough to worry about yet. I'd wait and see what happens if sometime in the
future it cracks all the way across then get the windshield replaced. My truck had a decent chip lasted
for years until way day I hit a large pot hole then it split about all the way across.

Ive had them repaired on trucks and they were fine. My
auto insurance will not pay for a repair. If you have the
chip fixed do it when its fresh, dirt in the crack will show
in the repair

Second on the do it fresh. I did one with a $10 kit and it worked fine and lasted years until a big rock took out the windshield, however it took me a few weeks to get around to it and as a result you could see the defect if you looked for it but it wasn't very noticable.

I used a Rainex brand kit just last week on my daughter's car . It cost $30 odd dollars and is worth every cent . Pros don't repair chips here much any more, I rang a few and they all said buy a kit . If you can't get to it right away put some sellotape over the chip until you can . The repair is just not visible , the ' bullseye ' in the screen was about the size of one of your Dimes , the resin filled it perfectly . Follow the directions and you really can't go wrong .

I use my insurance to have mine repaired..no charge if fixing dings but deductible and a hit on your number of claims if you don't get
it fixed and file for a replacement windshield. Never had a problem with them and over the years I have had several.....let the
experts fix it.

An insurance agent tole me once they never balk at replacing a windshield.

The thought is a cracked windshield could lead to an accident that would cost the company a lot more than a windshield.

My comment comes from my State Farm agent when I was with them and the same thing from my current Farmer's. I've been both ways; let it crack and replace and fix the ding and no way will I let it go again!

Got windshield chip fixed today. Took it to auto glass repair shop through Hendrick dealer where we bought Lisa's car. They did an excellent job. Thanks YT'ers for your help and suggestions.
