locking pliers

Anyone try Bremen pliers. I think they are better than the Taiwan Vise Grips. You can buy two for the price of one Vise grip.
I wish the bremen 6 plier was available with swivel pads.

When I learned that Vice-Grip had sold out to Irwin, I started buying well used Vice-Grips on farm and estate auctions. Never regretted that decision.

They are higher end tools than the Pittsburg brand
they have several different brands . They are better
quality than crapsman and about the same price

(quoted from post at 19:46:49 04/21/23) Anything is better than Irwin brand.

Glenn F:

Irwin is certainly a lot better than many of the other Vice Grip wannabes.

Having said that, There ain't nothing better than original "Peterson" Vice Grips. I am constantly amazed by their durability even when subjected to use that might be considered downright abuse.
I have many styles and sizes, many that I picked up at flea markets and garage sales over the years. The last pair (10 inchers) I got at a garage sale about 5 years ago for $4.00 and they were hardly used.

Like these sweet units ? Robbed the spring to put in a pair of pitsburgh brand harbor freight keeps changing names of things Is what I dont like

Chinese steel was introduced into even the Peterson vice grips in 1980. pre Chinese steel vice grips were unbelievably durable. i worked there from 1976 to 1984 and went thru the change. what really sucked is i don't believe they saved a dime. problems immediately reared it's head. lots of extra labor needed and lots more steel headed to the iron recyler!

The Original owners saw the mistake but was too close to selling out to reverse the bad decision. within 6yrs, they were gone from the business. one of the grandsons stayed on with a group of buyers and changed the name to American tool. One of the original owners tried to buy the company back to restore the damage done to the name. Everything was for sale CHEAP, except the vice grip name which wasn't for sale at any price!

I have maybe seven, use the welder version the most.

For some forgotten reason I bought one with the chain as the clamping part 30 years ago or so.
I think I maybe had a use for it three times!

I bought one of the Bremen pliers to try out, and have been impressed. I plan on getting a couple more in different configurations.
This is coming from a guy who doesnt really like the HF cheap tools, and wont pay the price for their higher tier tools.

Both Harbor Freight's Bremen and Lowes' Kobalt brand locking pliers have satisfied me well enough that I would buy more if I needed them.

Incidentally, the Kobalt locking pliers are a fantastic bargain when Lowes puts them on one of their sales.
