tube frame workshop parts

I have a workshop made from the square tubing like the carports you see everywhere. I am trying to find height extension tubes for the
sidewalls. The tubes are 2.5 x 2.5 inch. I can find 2x2 and 2x3 but I cant seem to find any 2.5 x 2.5 anywhere. I am going to reroof it this
summer, putting the tin vertical for better drainage and while I have it all apart, I want to add a foot or two to the height. Can anyone
give me a lead on a source in Missouri for these extensions or even just straight tubing so I could just replace what I have with longer
legs. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Misery is a big area. A little narrowing down would help to point you in the right direction. Why Can't you use the 2x2 if it would go inside if the original or over it and either weld or bolt to hold it height wise.

I suggest going to a steel supplier, if you haven't, and talking with a person. You should have the wall thickness as well as the outside dimensions when you talk with them.

you could weld up some "coupling sleeves" that would slip fit over the existing 2.5 in whatever length feels comfortable and bolt them to existing legs then add 2.5" extensions below them and bolt those to the bottom of the couplings... I'd make them a couple of feet long at least... sleeves could be alum or steel if you don't have aluminum welding available

Coremart Metals of Minneapolis has it. They will cut to size and ship anywhere. They are very competitive on pricing. My friend in Wyoming buys from them and is cheaper than buying local for him.

Could you get 2 1/2 angle maybe 1/8 thick and weld together to make a square tube? An inch or so of weld every few inches wouldn't take too long. Or have a sheet metal shop bend you some angle of thinner stock?

I suggest going to a steel supplier after you go to the bank for a loan.

Could you dig a post hole, use a round cardboard tube, fill it with concrete and make an above ground post? Or make a square concrete form with wood, then fill it with concrete.

The tubing for that carport is likely specially made for the carport manufacturer, and the only place that will have it is the carport manufacturer. Special galvanized, special gauge walls, special size, to make them as cheap as possible.

If you want an exact fit you will need to go to the place that sold you the carport and see if they will put you in touch with the manufacturer. Otherwise you will need to improvise.

Always great to hear from a fellow teacher. I'm retiring this year after 28 years. In recent years, I've been teaching physics, physical science and engineering design. Have loved my years but I'm really looking forward to having time for my home projects.

Just keep in mind that you will need to know both outside and inside dimensions of the tubing when shopping.

A 2.5" Outside Diameter tube will not fit over another 2.5" OD tube. But a 2.5" Iinside Diameter will go over of a 2.5" OD tube.

Think of it as if putting an exhaust system or water line tubing together from store bought parts.
