I've looked at Shopsmith tools for decades, but have never needed one. I think I would get frustrated having to switch everything around all the time. And since I had the room, I always had individual tools. But nowdays, a Shopsmith would fit me quite well.

I hope you get great pleasure from your new tool!!

I didnt pay much,,so not expecting much,,but,,I Will open the tailgate when I get and let yall see ,,even if I Got stuck,,,,I promise not to candy coat

Wishing you the best.
My 80 year old friend in the mountains gave one away last year.
They are great on small projects from what I have been told.

I've gpt one. Don't remember model # offhand (easy to check). Built in 1953 I think. I have used all functions, but use the drill press the most. Easy to set up and is accurate. You can still get parts and manuals (even new, updated models). Enjoy !

I never had a shopsmith.
The major complaint I read was the set up time each time you wanted a different tool. So if all you don't have is a lathe, that will be a great buy.

It used the same motor for everything.
Pray the motor is good or you have a motor shop locally that can find parts..
They were too expensive for me back in their day.

I bought one new around 1981 or 1982. I was in the Navy, living in base housing and my shop was an 8x10 shed.

The Shopsmith was perfect for that situation - a lot of tool in a very small space. The only serious drawback was the teeny-tiny table for the saw function.

I still have it, and use the drill press, lathe, disc sander and bandsaw functions fairly often.

It's been supplemented with stand alone tools: a full size table saw, a compound miter saw, thickness planer and a jointer. That combination does pretty much anything I care to do in my woodworking shop.

Shopsmith is a good brand however I don't like having to put a different attachment on it everytime you want to do something different. I bought a shopsmith bandsaw but bought a separate base to mount it on. I have it since the early 1980's and has never needed any repair.

larry, i got your email and address, i will send the live center to you. also sent you my mailing address, looking forward to a spoon!!

Have had a Shopsmith Mark 5 since 1978. Been the only tool because of space, agreed it is a pain to switch tool functions. Probably used the lathe the most. Picked up a second tool set during 20 teens. Got a joiner at the same time. Ordered the coupling for remote operations. Cold garage causes big draw on electric and occasionally blows the fuse. Has been the best tool for me.
