L to R steering radius unequal

Hi. Re: john deere B front wheels having tighter turning radius in one direction than they do in the other direction. Installed new sector gear with same part number as initial worn sector gear. Sector gear, again, has more travel in one direction before hitting stop bolt then in other direction. There was no way to split the difference with the same amount of teeth on each side when lining up the grooves in the spindle/sector gear. What other adjustments can be made to have an equal turning radius from one side to the other? Thanks in advance. nab

A GMC pickup I bought once was like that, it would turn shorter to one side than the other.

I solved it by centering the steering gearbox and adjusting the tie rods, lengthened one and shortened the other.

This is a ''tricycle'' tractor, right?

If that's the case it might not have hurt to have mentioned it.

Solution is very easy. Disconnect the drag link, center the steering box, align wheels straight ahead, adjust drag link before you attach it. Most drag links are adjustable. If not, cut and weld to correct length. HTH. Sam.

nutsandbolts,

Assuming the gear box is timed correctly, it's a matter of counting the steering wheel turns from all the way from the left, to all the way to the right.
1/2 the travel turns IS you center.

Everything else has to be adjusted to the steering box,

Yes. This JD B is a narrow front end.
