Ryobi batteries

Has anyone purchased the Ryobi 18 volt 6ah lithium aftermarket batteries? I see you can buy them for 25 bucks each. I would like to hear from anybody who has first hand experience with the aftermarket ones. I have had great success with genuine Ryobi but the price of replacements is out of sight.

I have bought several on Ebay.

Some claim to be reconditioned Ryobi batteries, some were aftermarket, some claimed to be real Ryobi but were not.

They all had 2 things in common, slightly cheaper than Home Depot, and 100% FAILURE!!!

I have had much better success watching for sale deals or buy a tool, get a free battery. There are also many different amphour rated batteries, cheap isn't always the best deal!

One thing I have come to find about Ryobi, as far as I can tell they are exclusive to Home Depot. Buying elsewhere is a gamble. It may be a legitimate sale of a used tool, but there's a better chance it's defective, stolen, or a counterfeit.

I only buy aftermarket batteries from Amazon. Amazon has free return shipping. Ebay, good luck, you may pay return shipping..

No I havent bought any. I am interested in the topic so have read several reviews and watched You Tube videos and surprised as to how much difference there is and the actual verified Amp Hour ratings versus the label (name brands as well as knock offs) YIKES. One brand that seems to test well is Waitley.

My wife has a Ryobi drill, and we had the battery rebuilt years ago, by the battery doctor I believe, and it's holding up well. I have bought aftermarket batteries for my Hitachi, and they don't last like the original, but they're cheap.

I have a couple.

I intermingle them with the genuine Ryobi batteries and I really can't tell a difference in performance.

I bought couple of the knock off Ryobi batteries from Amazon and the main problem I found with them is it is very hard to get the locking tabs that hold the battery in place disenaged when the battery needs to be removed. I have to use a screwdriver under each side after I press the lock tabs and then pry it off with the screwdrivers. They were a little cheaper but not worth the hassle as compared to the real Ryobi batteries

I bought a replacement for my Lincoln grease gun that turned out to be a knock-off. Right away it would not hold a charge 1/2 what a new one did. I recently bought what I thought was a DeWalt battery which turned out to be a knock-off. it doesn't hold a charge for very long either.

Another option is rebuilding. I took another Lincoln battery to a local chain, Batteries Plus, to get it rebuilt. It has lasted well.

I have sold all the major brands. Everyone has their favorite. I run Milwaukee M12 and M18s. I only buy original Milwaukee batteries no aftermarket or rebuilds. Have only had to buy 2 M12s. Buddy that runs Ryobi cordless has had fits with aftermarket batteries. Too each their own, when I need them they run flawless. Just one less thing I have to worry about.
