Glad you got the spots off. No offense, but you Dr needs
some major improvement in his sewing technique. My vet
does better work than that on my cattle.

While I will agree that the sun can do harmful things to you. I do not put much faith in sunscreen and have refused to use it for the past 30+ years. I have seen too
many cases where sunscreen has failed or caused its own problems. My wife has a friend/former coworker who is a twin. The friend has a year-round tan that is darker than
most Hispanics and never uses sunscreen, while her sister practically swims in sunscreen and has had multiple skin cancer spots removed. They were in their early forties
at the time. Hats and protective clothing are my preferred protection.

I go next month. A friend lost a good
size chunk from the top of his ear not
that long ago.

Your stich job ain't pretty but at least it's holding. I had a big bump on the back of my left shoulder taken off two
weeks ago, yesterday I had the stitches out and today it busted open. Don't know if I should go back or if it will fill
in by itself.

I'm 69 years old, had a spot removed from my back 7 years ago turned out to be Melanoma. Had to go
through a PET scan, didn't find anything else thankfully. Had several sunburns growing up never heard
of sunscreen. After this many years last year finally can go to yearly checkups started with monthly
then 6 month and so on. If you suspect a spot get it checked Melanoma can turn into cancer in other
parts of your body including your eyes.

I worked with a guy who had the tops of both ears removed. It made the rest of us think about wearing wide brimmed hats in the summer. Kinda like the iron worker that I worked with who had a patch over one eye. I'm pretty quick to reach for my safety glasses when I walk in my shop door.

Melbourne is the Melanoma capital of the world , sunscreen is a way of life but it is also combined with long sleeves and wide brimmed hats .
The only time you can rely totally on sunscreen alone is when wearing your bikini at the beach :p Somehow I doubt any of you have one ;perhaps a one piece for special occasions . :p
Seriously though so many people suffer terrible disfigurement and death from skin cancer , it's nothing to be blase` about .
As far as stitching quality goes the stronger the better, as my own skin specialist once said " unless a scar is going to interfere with your modeling career I'd rather sew this one up a little more securely " .

Good for you jniolon for being aggressive enough to get it taken care of. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Wingnut

I believe some people are more susceptible to this problem than others. While I don't go out in short sleeve shirts much Nor shirtless ever except to grab some thing out of a vehicle or a short hop like that. I have not had a problem though my dad 89 has had a few spots taken off in the past few years. He also is never out without long sleeves. All winter he has regular caps on and in summer he has a hat with a 2or 3 inch brim on it to cover his ears.

I have a similar scar on my left upper arm, all healed up and haired over. Doctor that sewed me up used a running stitch that
looked like the ones used on a sack of seed potatoes. Glad you got it taken care of.

Some sunscreens give me a red rash.
I have to use a sun blocker.
Either long sleeves, or a blend of zinc and titanium oxide sun
blocker...

It's wise to keep up with it. I go twice
a year and have had every type there is.
I'm sure the sun and old age hurts but
that isn't all that causes it. When I was
taking the wife to Duke for melanoma
treatment ages ago I saw infants and
toddlers with melanoma. The doctors told
us everyone had cancer cells that the
immune system normally keeps in check but
something in the immune system breaks
down and let's it spread.

I've had the trifecta. Basal cell, squamous cell and melanoma. Having another basal cell removed Tuesday. Although the melanoma surgery was very painful it was caught early. Get regular screening!!!!!!!

I have started wearing bike sleeves. Thin stretch full length sleeves. Gives sun protection without lotions and actually have a cooling effect.

You are Lucky, Count Your Blessings ,, I have this crap going on rite now. started as a tree branch scrape on the back side of my hand. the wound is worse now than ever, scars up,then something bruxhes it and opens it again . going to Dr. friday, for other stuff , Probably heading to specealist after that. .

Thank you John. I will TRY to remember these. Definitely not what they used on Mom in the nursing home. This kind of sleeve (bike sleeves) looks pretty sharp.

I live near Melbourne and as Charles wrote, Southern Australia is the skin cancer capital of the world. The UV index here is high to extreme in the Summer. Outside work means long trousers, long sleeved shirt, wide brimmed hat, SPF 50+ sunscreen and preferably UV400 sunglasses. We get visitors from other parts of the world and they are always shocked by how hard the sun burns the skin here. You don't go outside here in Summer without sun protection for a tan, you go outside like that to get burnt.

I'm 71 years old. Out in the sun every chance I get. Never used sunscreen. No problems.
