GMC 2500 blower fan

The blower fan on my 2003 GMC Sierra works in the 3-4-5 positions only. 1-2 I feel no air movement. Is that the switch or the motor? I
believe that if the motor works, it works and the speed is controlled by the variable resistance in the switch positions. So my analysis
is that the switch is bad but wanted to be sure I'm thinking correctly. Your thoughts?

My 2003 Silverado had similar symptoms, it's the blower resistor module. Pretty cheap and easy to replace, try going to Ebay and searching.

Probably Neither.

Most likely resistor module in plenum but could be high resistance connections at switch or resistor mocule.

The resistor module is a known issue on those trucks. GM extended the warranty (probably in lieu of a recall) but that's of course long expired now. Fairly simple fix--plenty of Youtube videos, though the quarters are a bit cramped.

My 2001 exhibited the same symptoms, except I could detect some very slight air movement. The culprit was the cabin air filter.

Everything worked a whole lot better after that filter went into the trash bin.

If it still has the trim cover under the dash, that might be the hardest part to remove/install especially if you have bucket seats with the floor console. There are several 7mm trim screws holding that cover on, it spans from the center hump all the way to the RH side covering the bottom of the HVAC plenum. The resister is on the bottom of the HVAC box right under the glove box, and beside the blower motor, probably held on with two 5.5mm screws.

It's best to go ahead and prepare to replace the connector to the resistor, often they are melted and some resistors come with a new pigtail included.
