The electric pwr washer start stuttering today. Fires up OK for 4-5 seconds, then quits, starts up again, then quits. Water source appears normal, and the electric plug looks OK.
Any suggestions of what to look for? Leo...and thanks for your time.

Sometimes you have to squeeze the trigger on the wand a LONG time to get all the air bubbles out of those things. a LONG time.

From the difference in answers it appears that you need to specify what the MOTOR is doing, separately from the pressure of the water.

As others have said, bleed the air from the water lines before you apply power to the motor. Or your water supply could be too low. Some power washers need a large supply of water. I feed mine with a full 3/4 line, including the valves & hose. If your water supply from a regular garden type faucet or 1/2 or smaller hose and you have a large capacity power washer, it will starve for water.

Is there a filter on the inlet ? My Karcher pressure washer does exactly the same thing when its inlet filter is clogged or the pressure from the water tanks is too low.

Have had that problem on a gas power washer. If you use to small of a tip it builds up presure and constantly bypasses. Put in a one size or two larger tip and everything was fine. Took awhile to figure that one out.

ot related to his problem, but can pressure washers suck water from a tank at the same level or below the machine or do they require some pressure at the input? I would like to use one away from a water supply faucet.

JMOR , my Karcher pressure washer is electric , a cut above the domestic versions but not quite full commercial.
It runs quite happily off the tanks at ground level, it can pulse a little when used continuously but in short bursts of a minute or so it's just as powerful .
In the past I have run it off a generator and a 50 litre water barrel to jet blast the farm's front gate before painting it . I've also used it as a pump to suck up water from two feet below the unit . It will only manage this if the wand is removed though , handy in a pinch .

Mine does that. There is air in the hose! Run hose out, burp it, before connecting. Check for kinks.you know, in that high priced guaranteed not to kink hose!,
