Any industrial hydraulics people here??

I bought two hydraulic trainers at an auction of a county school in Florida.

They are from the mid 1980's.

Can you tell me what the knurled brass knob valve next to the fill port might be/does?
The hydraulic line port is capped.

And also to the right of the Baldor motor logo you can barely see a round black knob on a rod with a set collar with thumb screw to easily adjust how far the rod can go down for some reason.
I am guessing there is a submerged valve in the tank? It goes down into the tank at an angle thru a drilled hole in tank top.
The rod is not sealed to the tank top at all.

All guesses welcome.
Thanks

I would guess the brass knob is a metered return to tank valve. There is probably a down pipe under it so oil
doesn't drip or splash. That prevents air bubbles from getting in the suction line.

Can't see enough of the black knob to make a guess.

If you remove the 4 corner bolts the top and all the works can be lifted off and reveal all it's secrets.
Probably want to see what's in there in the way of cleanliness anyway.

I agree with Steve. The capped ports are to keep them clean when in storage, or between lessons. Drain it/then take the top off to see what the
slanted rod does. Jim

what is a hydraulic trainer? thought the instructors are the trainers. one of them knobs would be to adjust the pressure required i would
think. if you want a certain pressure then u set it to that. looks like a hydraulic power unit like the old charlynn's but more advanced.

Here is a screen shot from the company's website.
They make hands-on-trainers for vocational education.
Ii bought two trainers very similar to the one pictured in the center. As you can see, they still use a hydraulic power unit basically the same as 1980 something.
I emailed them with my questions and their answer was too bad, so sad we do not offer support to second hand owners.
I bought two of them for $85 just for the steel work tables and a bunch of valves, gauges, 50 JIC hyd. Hoses of various lengths, hyd. cylinders, etc.

I call it flow control to cylinder, meters the fluid so the cylinder moves at a controlled speed, doesnt slammed into the Postion . Some
cylinders have them with cushion.

Free flow back to tank , metered flow out another way of saying .

Nice buy good for you !
