from a few weeks ago, I posted about a 1993 Chevy PU won't start. First I need to say, It wasn't mine, wasn't very close to me. Belongs to a female friend, and I did't know a lot of history. I did go and check it out, and it cranked just fine. Tried to fire but wouldn't run. Had spark,I figured a fuel delivery issue! She had it taken to a car shop nearby and they found very bad spark plugs ! aslo changed coolant temp sensor? Well it starts and runs fine now. Of course that was a little pricey, for 'plugs'.. 40 years ago, my first thought would be plugs or points.

I replaced the plugs on my 07 GMC.

I found AC plugs on Amazon.
ACDelco 41-993 Professional Iridium Spark Plug (Pack of 4)
$14.28

I only needed 6 plugs but I had to buy 8.

Are Amazon plugs cheaper than what it cost you??

(quoted from post at 12:29:44 05/28/22) Coolant temp sensor may be the thermostat??!!

Temp. Sensor for the dash gauge?

Maybe one for the fuel injection also.

Coolant temperature sensor tells the ECM exactly that. Which in turn then enriches or leans out the air/fuel ratio.

When they go bad, as a general rule, the ECM gets a signal that says the coolant is cold, as in - degrees cold, the ECM then provides a rich mixture resulting in a flooded scenario.

Quite similar to a sticky automatic choke on a carburetor.

Double 07, That does fit the symptoms, dead on. The owner lady did get it started one dsay and drove it 2mi to the shop.
They told her it was saying 'way cold'...

It's a throttlebody injection engine. As preeviously stated, This Temp Sensor feeds the engine computer and adjusted the mixture, much like a chocke used too.

(quoted from post at 06:46:30 05/29/22) Well, at the repair shop it was 'platinum plugs AP25, $5.16 ea.

I asked a successful man one time how he made his money he told me he worked on a 2% mark up. I was shocked he then said I buy it for a $1.00 and sale it for $2.00.

I am not as greedy as him I doubt I would ever have a business model as successful as his. I can survive on my my business model of 1.66%.

Cheap garbage Autolite AP25 spark plugs that will eat you alive when they come back misfiring $3.99 cost X 1.66% = 6.62

With today's cost to operate a shop you cannot run a business on labor along. If a customer complains I fire him and let them be the lower priced guys problem.

Lets say you find that guy you trust his work is without a doubt are you passing him up for the hole in the wall down the street for a couple bucks over a spark plug.

I will give ya an example I have a car in the shop this gal eats me alive every time she comes in I lose my arse helping her. She declines my price every time.

It has a bad coil on the back bank under the plenum I refuse to replace one coil, Common since tells you to get them all are at the least the three hard ones under the Plenum. low bidder gets the job he put one coil on it and did not replace the spark plugs. Its back at my shop with another misfiring coil on the rear bank.
It has Bosch spark plugs in it they are as bad as Autolite.

Its had a locked up AC compressor for awhile while its in low bidders shop he under priced the misfire to get the compressor job. He does a poor job the cheap compressor along with not going after the condenser and hoses the compressor is rattling. I know for a fact its on its way out and it gonna get nasty. I will point this out after I get all the coils and spark plugs.

How many times do you deal with the low bidder before you realize you are paying for the same job twice and its still not performed right.

I have the best customer base a man could ask for once in awhile I fall off the wagon and let a cheap arse slip in : (.... Its my reminder to shy away from them.

Why do folks price shop there are plenty of shops out there you can trust that do good work find them and patronize them.

There is a business adage that ten percent of your customers cause ninety percent of your problems. It pays to weed out your problem customers.

THe shop I worked in bought a new exhaust bender,it came with a
book written by a guy who ran a big shop out in CA. What I
remember most about that book was where he said Do not be the
cheapest exhaust shop in town, be the most expensive. There was a
shop that would patch a hole in your pipe,I replaced the pipe.If
you needed an aliment we checked the parts and sold what was
needed, not cheap but honest. I ran the shop that way and the owner
felt the same.

Same at my shop, Hobo. Aint got time for cheapskates, and I dont have time for rechecks.
One of my price shoppers is learning a hard lesson right now. Didnt like my price to rebuild or
replace the differential in his truck, so the guy down the street got the job. One day later, it was
back there for a recheck, been sitting in the same spot for 2 weeks now.

there used to be guy near Freeport Il told me about ever 2 years he would lose a customer that would give him fits about something.
He would finally tell customer if you can find someone to do it better than me go for it. They usually wouldn't come back. He wouldn't miss them.
his idea was that customer wasn't worth the pain and grief.
Oh I worked for one of those pain in butts. No one could make him happy.
