I haven't had this tach/dwell meter out of the case in 25 years.
If I remember, it will read RPMs on a four cylinder as 1/2 speed
on the v8 mode. Do you think the 6 cylinder mode will read a 3
cylinder engine? Yanmar just doesn't run fast enough,I just want
to check the RPM.
 
I needed a tack to set the idle RPM's on my 4010 Kaw mule.
I bought a digital tack off Ebay. One you can replace the battery. Just wrap a wire around the spark plug wire. Very accurate.
I needed 950 rpms.. Anything less and the engine dies. Anything faster, the mule moves.
 
Use the 6 cyl scale and multiply the reading by 2 and it will work on a 3 cyl. However at idle it will be in the very low part of the scale.
