Good afternoon, bmack95hd: If I recall correctly, lots of bigger kids made lead soldiers at home, over mom's gas stove. Plumbers used lead in the joints of soil pipes, auto body shops used it as body filler, so heating lead with an open flame was not unheard-of.

Back when we lived in Winfield KS I remember lead bricks my dad would bring home and my older brother cutting lead off to make the soldiers. It was all I could do to pick up a lead brick but I was around 7 years old

I remember back in 69 when a couple of guys used to troll the station I pumped gas at, among others, for discarded wheel balance weights to melt down and mold sinkers. Looking back, as tight as the old boy that owned that station was, I'm surprised he let those things get away for nothing. gm
