When Tommy Gate is NOT a tool

When you think of Tommy Gate, you think of the powered lift behind your pickup, right?
I can't remember where or exactly when my dad picked this up, but it's been at my home place for decades. The recent extreme winds we have had in Kansas has put this guy out of commission. My mom still lives at the home place and it would be nice if I could get it operational again. Years ago, out of curiosity, I remember calling Tommy Gate and the guy who answered the phone pointed me to the parts department. I talked to a guy who answered the phone and I remember him saying that they currently didn't have parts for this ornamental yard wind mill, but they would be making more soon.
Fast forward to today. The original Tommy Gate website went nowhere and after a phone call, I soon found out that they have been sold to another corporation. The guy answering the phone had no clue that Tommy Gate ever made ornamental wind mills. I guess the original factory in Iowa is gone, also. I know I could cobble some Chinese-made blade assembly to it, but I seriously doubt it would last very long. Photos for the curious.

That's a NEAT story of an American company doing what it took to keep the employees working and the lights on!

I fabricated a tractor fan for my same exact windmill, used the center hub of old fan and welded a fan from a 4010 John deere fit perfect on the hub. You will never have to replace the fan again as tractor fans are built heavier. Survived the big wind that went thru Iowa 2 years ago.

Talked to my BIL today, I knew he used to work at Tommy Gate. He grew up in Woodbine. He said he used to put the fan parts in a jig and weld it together. He thought the patent got sold around 20 years ago. was pretty sure Tractor Supply parts would work.

Since a patent lasts 20 years max, I'm sure it's long been ignored. Anyway, thanks for the tip. I'll get something together from some source to get it going again.
