Really old tool?

Found this at a local antique store today very reasonably priced.
Looks too old to be a reproduction. I'm thinking it's a pre 1900 well bucket. What do you think?

That is a great guess. My grand dad's Ice cream freezer had a similar bucket, but was from the 20s. Jim
 

drain hole was on the top but lower that the lid of the icecream container

I can still feel my cold butt from being the one sitting on it !!!

Wooden maple sap buckets often had a similar ring on them to hang them from the spout that was pounded in the tree.
 
The drain hole on an ice cream freezer was near the top but lower than the inner tub so salt water would not get in the ice cream.

I don't think it's an ice cream maker bucket, no center on the bottom for the tub to turn on, no place on top for the drive to attach.

It's a nice, heavy duty bucket though!
