Ford 1710 wont start!

I have a Ford 1710 with 900+ hours, Shibaura 3 cycle diesel. It has always been hard starting, but the last few years has been really hard to crank. Here recently, I have been completely unsuccessful. I have a brand new battery, and have tried multiple new starters thinking it is just not turning it over fast enough. New glow plugs and water separator, new oil, and filter. New water pump and thermostat. New muffler also. I have checked the injectors and they are getting fuel, glow plugs burning hot orange. I have yet to replace the injectors, because they are hard to find. I get black smoke, and the occasional backfire, but it never starts, even after the engine gets warm from trying to start. I live in Florida, and it is about 75-80 F, still no dice! Any troubleshooting advice, and comments are all welcome! Help me get this thing started, so I can fix my driveway!

You'll likely get a bit more advice on a forum focused on newer products, like Tractorbynet.com. There seems to be a lot of activity on their New Holland/Ford forum, much of it focused on the Ford 1XXX products. As far as parts are concerned, have you tried your New Holland dealer? I think our New Holland TC21D has a very similar engine to your Ford.

I tried tractor by net, their website is faulty, and wont let me join. Keeps asking for a captcha that isnt there! I am 44, and this tractor isnt much younger than me, lol! How old ya got to be, if not 1983?

Thanks,
Sev

Scroll down to the Ford forum on here. Someone there will be able to help you. Sometimes guys only look at certain forums here and this post may get missed by the Ford guys who can help

Fair enough. There certainly are several experts here, but perhaps post down in the Ford forum, instead of the Tools forum. Black smoke means unburnt diesel fuel, so that could be a set of injectors that are not providing a good fuel spray.

Black smoke means fuel is getting past injectors into the cylinder. Make sure the air intake does not have a critter nest blocking air flow, and then pull the glow plugs for a compression test. The injectors have replaceable tips if bad, I've had to replace some before. If engine is too low on compression it will never start.

One of the injectors seemed to be clogged after I took them out. That is after taking them out the first time, and they seemed to be clogged, or stuck at that point. I will be the first to admit, I am not that knowledgeable about diesels, so any advice is good advice. Going to look into a set of injectors now. I inherited this tractor when my dad passed. He always maintained it, and I just helped mow, grade the driveways, weld attachments, etc

Any where in particular that you bought those tips? They showed some corrosion, and pitting, definitely need to be replaced, if not the whole injectors. The compression ratio is 23:1, so what should my reading be?
