Battery Maintainers

This might have been asked before & forgive me if I missed the discussion, but what brands do you use, & why did you choose the brand ? Need one for 6 volt Farmall, 12 Volt for Kubota, Oliver, truck, & airplane too. Thanks for any insights & comments

I have several.....I always look for units built by Schumacher. They have been building chargers forever and are a quality product in MY opinion.

I have several Battery Minders on various 12 volt tractor batteries. Also on my F250 diesel that pretty much sits idle in winter.

On my 6 volt tractor I use a Noco Genius.

All have worked perfectly several years.

My batteryminder is 12v only.
Not sure if they make any 6v charges that
desulfate

I got a half a dozen of the Viking from Harbor Freight, when they were on sale for twenty two or three bucks. They're 4 amp digital.

Make sure you get one that resets it self to operating mode should the power blink or go out and return. Also get a Battery Maintainer and not a trickle charger that can over charge.

Wow! That's a high voltage, and looks like it's an Alternating voltage too. You wouldn't dare have the battery hooked up to a vehical!!!

The 28vac tells me the batteryminder is in desulfate mode which it can be there for weeks. The final mode is the float mode, no ACV.
The accuracy of the ACV isn't my concern. Out of curiosity, I would love to see the amplitude of the 1khz positive spikes riding on top of the +12vdc. .

I have used the Deltran Battery Tender Jr. for about 11 years with excellent success. I have 4 of them in use at the home and 6 of them at our shop. These are very simple to use and so far the only issue I have ever had was one of the older models struggling to keep up on my truck battery when the temperature hits single digits. My fix has been to swap the older one over to the garden tractor battery and put the newer one on the truck. All green lights now.

I did buy a new Noco Genius 1 brand and it arrived this last Friday. It has 1 amp output and will condition the battery as well. I tried it on a boat starting battery that I have in the basement and after the battery sat for over a month the Noco 1 had it back up to full charge in about 48 hrs. The charger went through a re-condition cycle for more than 24 hours but so far it seems to have done the job.

I've had a couple NOCO chargers/maintainers and have been very happy (we have several at work too). The 'smart' chargers seem to really make a difference in battery longevity and I've even been able to revive a weak battery using the 'recover' desulfation function. The one I linked below with charge 6 or 12v, flooded, agm, gel, or even lithium batteries. Overall, I've been very happy with them and, if this one dies, I'll definitely buy another. My only complaint is that, at 5A peak, they're slow.

Despite what George thinks, there is no AC. Use a good meter and there will be no AC. I put a scope on my BatteryMinder a few days ago and there was nothing but pulsed DC and only a few volts over the battery voltage. No high voltage, no AC. This agrees with the BatteryMinder web site. Just low voltage pulsed or high frequency DC.

Do desulfinators even do anything useful? I have some doubts but they are not much more expensive than a common 3 stage charger. 3 stage chargers are inexpensive and old technology. I expect there is not much difference in the name on the charger.

I have both NoCo and Batteryminder in use for years, both seem to work well.
