Ebay Question

I consider Ebay as a tool is why I'm posting my question on this board. Are those of you who sell on ebay getting messages from ebay
to update your bank account information to continue receiving payouts?
I've been receiving payouts to my checking account since last February and now all of a sudden they're saying payouts are on hold
until I update my account info. I just want to make sure it's legit before I update anything because nothing's changed in my ebay account.
Thanks in advance.

Might be a scam. I would contact ebay and not by replying to that message and ask them about that. Many scams look like they could be legit but are slightly different hoping you won't notice

Doubl07 is right new laws past on the hush. Also every deposit into a checking or savings account of $600 or more will be reported. Don't know they are going to sort out personal sales from business sales. If I sell something I've had for 20 years and sell it will I have to pay taxes on it? How many people have receipts from 1 year ago let alone 20?

That scam shows up around tax time. They have contacted me a few time. My family lawyer said contact the IRS. To confirm it. They will not call you. You will get an official letter. Then you can look up the number and call them.

Don't fall into the threat trap.

When you say messages are they in you message box when you log in to Ebay? If so they are legit. However if they are emails they are not legit. EBay sends out a message every now and then that NO email that asks you to log in is legit.

An ebay email will tell you to go login to your ebay account the normal way.
not to click any link in an email to login.

That same protocol should be followed all the time with emails from anywhere.

While the IRS will not ask you to do anything via email out of the blue, they do correspond via email if you already have a resolution case active.

The original post in this thread is about an email from ebay, not the IRS.

You are correct but easiest best way to avoid all emails that appear to come from EBay as even if they are legit the same message will be in your account messages when you log on.

Yes I know. But how do you know it came from Ebay. If you only contact the address they give you. All I am saying is be careful. Who you give out information too. Make sure it is correct or it could cost you

I don't sell anything on Ebay.
If everything posted here is true, it sounds like the IRS wants their fair share too..
Years ago Indiana wanted part of the action, Ebay and Amazon had to start collecting sales taxes on everything I buy.

If I hire anyone to trim trees and pay more than $600, my CPA has to send them a 1099 in January.

up until 2022 the 1099 thing for online sales was triggered after 20,000$ in annual sales.
but laws have been changed to capture more income taxes to pay for stuff being enacted by the group we must not speak og here.
