We are hard on our phones!

This is probably my best source of expertise on my problem. You all work hard, and get dirty. That's why I'm asking here.

My flip phone is going belly-up. But I didn't bust it this time. That's why I have a flip phone, in a holster. I'm seriously considering a smart phone, but I am really hard on stuff carried on my person. Any suggestions on a good, indestructible smart phone for Verizon? And a way to carry it that I won't sit on or lean into it. Verizon, IMHO far outshines the others for coverage in the mountains and plains of the Inland NW, so I'm not interested in changing carriers. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Steve PS, I'm working on TRACTOR rims and tires right now, using all my tools. Just to make sure it's tractor and tool related!!!

I wear bib overalls. I carry my phone in the breast pocket. Not 100% guaranteed to never damage the phone, but it is the safest place I have found.

(quoted from post at 13:28:03 01/12/22) !
I carry mine in my front pocket with the glass facing in toward my body.
I damage mine by dropping them on something hard like cement floor.

You need an ' Otterbox' Defender , or a 'Titan case ' smart phone cover . Google them on e bay or some such place .
Water proof , shock proof and let's you sit , stand on and throw the phone about .
Roughly $50 Aus , easy to use and still fit into a pocket comfortably.

I ware cargo pants I tote my SAMSUNG GALAXY A52 in a side pocket. I tried a side holster I kept breaking them. Samsung to me is the only way to fly.

Be best to go to a phone store (not walmart) and shop around.
A lot of newer cell phones are now being made using glass for the frame, body, front and back covers whichever you wish to call it. It makes the phones slick as snot on a marble out of the box. So a good case is highly recommended before you do anything with one.

I have had many phones. You could not give me an iPhone. If you did not have to jump through Apple hoops every time you wanted to do something they would not be to bad nothing never changes on them. They may add another camera lens and call it "new" So it has been Androids for me for the past 8-10 years.

My current phone is a factory unlocked OnePlus 8 pro. I have had it about 3 or 4 years now with Verizon and haven't had first problem with it.

I have 5 years on an iphone SE smartphone in an otterbox case. Am on my second case, the cases do wear out. Dropped, stepped on, got wet (but not submerged), weld spatter, etc. Only problem with the phone is the charging connection (lightning port) is getting intermittent. And it does not like to be hot, if I leave it in the Ranger seat in the summer time it will shut down due to overtemp. Comes back to life as soon as it cools. iphone SE is the smallest of the iphone family and fits in a pocket easily even with the case. FWIW I was on Verizon until just recently switched to AT&T, but that doesn't matter to the phone.

I have an older i-phne a 5 maybe, not the bigger new ones, in an otter box. the phone was new to me about 4-5 years ago. the case was a hand me down from my son, it is not water proof but has absorbed a LOT of shocks/drops plus makes it easy to hold on to. As much as I like to support the little guy, Verzon does have excellent coverage.

Have had an I phone se for several years. Pretty durable. Usually keep it in my front pocket except when Im doing things like loading cattle which can get rough. Also have a Pelican case and side holster. Both work well.

It's IPhone XR for our family. We got the daughter a Samsung Galaxy a few years ago. We weren't impressed with the camera. Other than that not a whole lot of complaints but did upgrade her to the iphone at Christmas. At the phone store they will apply what they call liquid glass to the screen for around $25. I don't have a lot of experience with it but their sales pitch said it was the best thing for protecting the screen, so I got that on the kids' phones but also put on one of the plastic film screen protectors. We use otterbox or other high quality phone cases.

If you choose to stay with a flip phone, Verizon has this rugged model. I use one and like it.

I am on my third or fourth iPhone, company buys new ones about every two years. We are up to 11s this year,no matter what brand of phone you need an OtterBox to put the phone in,do not shrimp on the cover. I have a nephew who has a love hate relationship with them. He makes good money when he sells one,but he makes lot more money repairing phones that don't have covers!

I have a four year old Google Pixel. It's in an Otterbox case and hasn't broke yet. I use a screen protector and have replaced them, my current one is cracked again. I also wear cargo pants to keep the phone in, I farm in cargo shorts all summer. Don't keep your phone in your back pocket where you sit on it, and always keep the screen side toward your body.

Hey there, yes I was in the same boat, I had a Motorola droid turbo, that didn't have a good replacement.
Studied hard and long, went to the pixel 4a 5g.
It has been good to me.
Front shirt pocket, and left rear jean pocket.
Never had an OtterBox. This one is a db brand hard shell case out of Ontario? Never could talk to anyone there, all e commerce, bummer.
We have Verizon. Phone doesn't like metal shed.
Motorola finally came back, but their phone is taller bigger than this one I think pixel is 6.8 long. I wear medium gloves. This fits good.
Wife and Bailey is a junior in high school, both have apple. Too little for me, and I wanted to be different than apple hang. GG

Steve, I've had the Kyocera armored smart phone from VZN for several years now, can't tell you the model because the lettering wore off the back. Some weld spatter stuck to the replaceable face covering, but it doesn't bother me, yet. I have not babied it, and usually carry it in my shirt pocket or cargo pants pocket or toss it in the tractor cupholder. Not the best at anything, but satisfactory in all things. They had to order it in to our little store when I got it, but it should be on the website.

At&T has the military grade kyocera flip phone. Loud ring and volume, bullet proof for hd use. While I have a smart phone, its a pain in the butt due to having to put it in a special protective case, screen protector, and its huge and difficult to wear, easy to break. So if you dont need the smart phone features, the Kyocera is best. Great for older folks as well. The easily replaceable battery also makes it a long life phone too.

I have had the best luck with the iPhone in a good case . I was breaking 3 or 4 phones a year before I switched to the iPhone since switched I havent broke 4 phones in the ten years since combined

CAT S48c The c indicates it's compatible with Verizon. They were the only game in town when I lived in Washington.

I've had mine going on 5 years now & love it. One heck of a die hard phone. Water tight & darned near bullet proof. Mine has fallen in a puddle, fell in the toilet & I could wash it with soap & water. Slid off the roof once or twice. Fallen from as far as my hand to the ground when standing on the thresher. Has fallen a few times while I was taking video on my 560 & 806 to post on YouTube. Went under the tire of the hay conditioner once. Still works just fine. Couple small nicks in the screen. Would be hard pressed to find one that will hold a candle to this one.

Mike

I carry mine in the front top bib pocket then my glasses in the other one beside it. Only problem is they will fall out while layng on my back under things. I go through at least a couple a year from injuries being inflicted on them.

The day of the flip phone has passed. Get a name brand smart phone and an Otter Box. Put the phone in your pocket and fuhgetaboutit. Some, but not all, Otter Box cases have plugs to keep moisture and dust out of the USB and phone jack ports, which is what usually kills phones when you keep them in your pocket, so make sure the Otter Box you get has those plugs. If you're in the habit of putting your phone in the same pocket as your keys and other junk, get a screen protector.

I've never had any luck keeping my phone (flip phone or smart phone) on a belt clip or holster; it invariably gets ripped off my belt, usually at a bad time. It's much safer in my pocket; I won't lose my phone as long as I keep my pants on.

Otterbox fan here. I am on my second one with this phone thats 5 - 6 years old. It gets dropped every once in awhile but has always survived with no damage to the phone. I carry it in my front pants pocket or jacket pocket.

Find a small iPhone that fits in a shirt pocket. I wear MWG snap shirts Phone is always in the right pocket.
You may have to get your wife to sew pockets on all your shirts(LOL). I find that is the only place that I dont put to much pressure on it. I also have seen flexible phones that people say are great.

Reading all these comments makes we wonder how you all ever survived back in the day when your phone was attached to the wall in the house ? Now you all have became full time baby sitters of your phones ?
I do have a cell phone , but seldom do I have it on me. It sits on a shelf in the house or in my car.

I was told the flip phones will shortly no longer work, anything to that? I have been planing on when I get enough money to get one and get away from y smart (DUMD) phone that is all the time trying to do things I don't want it to do. I just when I got this phone needed smoething with more speaker power to hear than the old flip phone. I only want it to be able to make and recive calls. NO TEXT OR VOICE MAIL OR ANYTHING ELSE.

I always use an Otter Box case. I have dropped them a number of times but never had any issues. iPhone user here.

Do you really have to carry it on your person all the time? At some point nothing is indestructible.

One thing I feel is important is to make sure the phone fits your hand well. Some models today are getting a bit big and it's a challenge to keep a good grip on them. A case with soft grips will help as well.

iPhone se. went from a slider to this. Carry in otter box and in front shirt pocket. If working in rough area or close area take it out of pocket and lay it close. Grew up without one but they sure would have come in handy many times to avoid a long walk or a trip to ask someone a question. Learned along time ago to keep it with me. Last several years dad and mother were alive taught me to keep it close and on. Got in the habit and stayed with it. Besides if the wife has car trouble I know I better answer.

I carry mine all the time. Its my business phone and for emergencies. Couple of years ago I was injured on the tractor and was able to call for help.

Hobo told me about the samsung a 52 and that is what I carry in my upper shirt pocket , could not
be happier and I have had a lot of diffrent phones. For the money and performance can not beat it.
Some kind of generic protector Hobo recommended and it has stood up to drops and ever thing.

I have a Samsung G5. I have no idea what it cost as it was given to me. It is in an armored "Beyond Cell" case and that rides in a heavy duty hip holster with a real belt loop and not a clip. The phone was an unlocked Verizon. I use Tracfone on Verizon towers, and it costs me about $16.00 a month. I have no coverage issues at all.

I fought the smart phone battle forever. When the keypad on my last $19.00 phone started dying my family wanted me to use the gifted smart phone. What finally convinced me was when my grandaughter showed me I could talk to text! No more trying to see the stupid letters and type out a text. That and the much better camera, and a light, sold me.

If you use it as a phone, Tracfone works fine. If you use it as a computer, not so much.

I just got a new Mil . spec. flip smart phone . It is a CAT phone , my old MIL. spec flip phone was out dated and with the new 4-5 G systems would no longer work . We were with Sprint and had been since the old bag phone days . The Along comes T mobile and things change and i have to get a new phone . They kept pushing me to the stupid fancy smart phones / I did not want one of them walking computers . Told them what i wanted and if they could not come up with a PHONE that was built to take a beating , get drowned in rain go swimming in free stall manure , do a two and a half Gainer off the top of a combine down on to concrete live in dust , and you can hear over a running engine then it was time for us to go find a new carrier . And i plus i did not like the cocky know it all KID telling me what i needed for a phone . And yea i was starten to sorta get loud . When the store manager came over and asked if i had problem , never ask me that question as you may not like what i have to say . Once i was done un loading on him i get OH well ah we don't havve that phone in the store BUT i can get you your MIL. Spec. flip phone and OH it is only 235 Bucks , Ok fine , Oh wait there is a 200 dollar REBAIT on it Ok fine how soon can i get this Ah well i can have it shipped to your home by tomorrow . And the next day i had a CAT S 22 Flip phone and ordered a new holster off Amazon for i think 7 bucks.
Now yep it is a smart phone and yep you can do it all if ya are smart enough to figure it all out , BUT it does what i want and has nice BIG NUMBERS , it has the touch screen , BUT still works sorta like my old flip and i can hear it .
