How to use procedure out of my manual,

Guido.

Ok. But whoever made that manual ought to think things through a bit first. I cant see why they couldnt label things in A, B, C, D order.

The cuts are listed in disorderly order, but that three cut method is how the tree nursery guy showed me to properly prune a large limb without damaging the tree.

How they came up with that C - A - D cutting order is puzzling.

Guido,
I can't read, so manuals are worthless.
I use the KISS method. KEEP IT SIMPLE.
Start at the top, one cut and I'm done.
The weight of the saw does all my work.

Jeez! They make it look like rocket science. Is the branch 3/4 or 4? Makes a helluva difference. Just cut off about 5 to 10 from the main trunk. Then cut it back leaving about a 1-2 stub at the main trunk. All is well.

I think they are trying to leave a smooth surface that the tree will 'heal' over in time.

What escapes me is why cut 'c' is the first cut. Why not label it 'a'? But it was probably written by somebody at a desk.

So you cut up from the bottom, then move outward a bit and cut down from the top, just outboard of the first cut. When the second cut gets close to the first cut, the limb snaps off, then you cut the 'stub' off the tree. So no splinters pull out of the main trunk of the tree and it heals over easily.

More to be kind to the tree than just trying to get on with the job.

Another missed or lost in translation chinese deciphering of instructions. They obviously don't realize we usually list instructions in steps by order (a,b,c,d or 1,2,3,4).

Once understood, these instructions are the best way to cut limbs, as to not damage the tree any further, and it might make it a little more predictable or safe as to what happens to the falling limb. Instructions to fall a tree should be followed too, mainly for safety, that's something I see a lot of people not doing right, mainly making a single slash cut diagonally through the trunk-BAD!!!.

Geo, that may be simple enough for you but most people want to do things properly. "If it is worth doing it is worth doing right!"
