Harbor freight chainsaw sharpener

How can you tell when the grinding wheel is worn out can you turn it around or replace it and can you get them at harbor freight. Thanks

If you want your chains to be as good as they can be you should be dressing that wheel every 3-4 chains to maintain the correct round profile. Not sure on the cheapie but most come with a gauge and a dressing stick. Yes you can turn the wheel around. As it gets smaller in diameter the sharpening angle on the side of the cutters changes. The wheels are the same as usesd on a small Oregon and all good saw shops will have them in stock, the Oregon wheels are superior to the ones at HF or big box farm stores

Yes most stores have replacements. I bought an extra when I got mine 12 or 14 years ago. Haven't needed it yet but not far from it. Probably done 100 or so chains and it's only about an 1/8 smaller than the knew one. I'm not real aggressive with and try not to let the chains get too bad. I have 5 or six chains for each saw.

They should be turned around occasionally, and when the diameter is reduced by about 1/2 inch replace it, like others have said. I am sure dressing it would help too, but I never have, and have been very happy with mine for over 10 years.

I guess you guys are talking about the little mickey mouse plastic HF motorized sharpener. Encourages me to continue to use mine and not think I'm dealing with a piece of crap. It works ok enough to suit my needs but not a professional instrument by any means.....but what did I pay for it....next to nothing....so...shut up and get on with your life.....yes sir!
