Disinfecting Mat

Does anyone use a disinfecting mat around your farm near livestock barns? What do you all put onto the mat to kill bacteria on your boots? Local inspector is requiring we use one as we have chickens and pigs and wants one on the way into our brooder. However, won't make any recommendations as to what should be used on the mat. Can't be liable ya know!

Sorry, can't help. Never heard of such a thing. Can't find any sort of "disinfecting mat" for livestock operations on google.

I would go back to the inspector's office and badger them until they give you some information. If they "require" something, they have to tell you what it is that they require.

I think you need a tray that has a strong bleach or disinfectant in it to walk in. The vet has a water hose on his truck to wash his boots.

Haven't had one myself, always just used rubber tubs, but many places around here use the mats. The link you provided also sells several disenfectants that will work. Bleach is not the best choice, although there are powdered chlorine products available. Iodine is one option.

Food plants use what they call "door foamers" they put out a foam of quaternary ammonium that you walk through in the area of the door. They cost a lot more than a mat but are way cheaper in the long run.
