Saw these on the web and at times in stores. Decided to get one. Bought a good Tekton at Menards. On way home happend to stop at Harbor Freight. They had
them for $1.99. Guess which one works best? The HF. The Tekton wont snap, wont work. Expensive not always better! The Tekton will go back.
Might just do like I always did, regular center punch, hammer, and anvil. 🙃😝🤬
I welcome your comments.

I am not familiar with Tekton mine is Starret and it is adjustable if you adjust it to much it won't snap, if yours is adjustable try backing it off a little and see if it will work.

I Have a General and a Starret automatic center punch, both of them work intermittently. Also have one I bought out of the dollar tool bin at the hardware store, it never has missed a punch.

I bought a snap on punch and chisel set that had one in it never could figure out much use for it they dont make enough mark on steel to even see

Firefighters carry these in their pocket for breaking car side windows after watching the cop whale on it with his stick a few times. You no doubt got one with a little burr or shaving inside.

I have one that dates back to WW2 and the new ones look like an exact copy, if they are then they are adjustable. The top is threaded to the barrel. Screwing it together increases the depth of the mark and of course the force required to operate it. Mine can be too hard to push if screwed down tight enough.

Got one at HF yesterday. 3.99. No 20% coupons and no free coupons as of yesterday.

(quoted from post at 13:52:05 02/21/21) Ok you smoke chaser stop picking on the cops or should I say blue birds LOL.

I asked our Police Chief not long ago if his men have them because you see it on the news a lot. He told me that they do but I have my doubts, LOL

Yes, we did that years ago when I was a volunteer....automatic center punch and seat belt cutters were invaluable at times.
When using the punch 90% of the glass would go down into the door, not on the patient.

I oiled mine and it worked better. Appreciate the "unscrew" comments. Will do. I know it takes a few whacks to dent steel but if drilling a larger hole, I come back with a regular punch and hammer, set it in the spot I started and increase the size. For small holes it usually is adequate.

I don't hear much about cops being arrested for burglary. I don't think that they need to worry much about it.
