Coolant for TIG

Went to Cyberweld and read about coolant for water cooled TIG torches. One says not for high frequency .The other can't be diluted .Anybody know any alternatives . That will not break the
bank.

I ran one at work and it was high frequency and water cooled. It was old and work good but maybe they had trouble with them. The other newer one was ran only with argon gas and it had high frequency on it also and I like them.

dr Sportster,

It's a new one on me! I ran a miller at work with high frequency for aluminium to and the torch was water cooled,

Guido.

The water cooled torches are used where there is high amperage being used to weld thicker material, or longer weld time where the torch would get too hot to use. The next air cooled tig rig I see melt because of too much heat won't be the first

Doc, if I'm not mistaken, you're a Florida Man. Is there any risk of freezing in your shop? If not, I think you can use straight H2O.

520 Pipefabricator,

Yep. The Miller machine I used at work was an heli welder. Not too bad on stick and mig either.

Was set up for all three,

Guido.

My Lincoln Precision tig manual says to use ethylene glycol. The welding supplier I bought it from told me to use green automotive antifreeze, and it has worked well for over ten years in this machine, and I don't have any idea how long in the previous machine

An algaecide for water would be chlorine bleach. That is what I use to clean air conditioner coil pans and condensate drain lines. Swimming pool chemical has a higher concentration of chlorine.

I spent 100's of hours with an HUGE old Miller with an addon HF unit. It had switches (can't remember the designation now) that looked like it came out of Fankensteins lab. It was tap water cooled to the torch. It was the smoothest machine I ever used. I ended up teaching a class at a local VVI. I went to California to work for a racing car mfg. and welded stuff about the thickness of a paper match cover. Too shaky now.
