OT need something

I OT some on here cuz there are a lot of people on this site with many varied interests and you all have been a lot of help over the years, with my 2N, ( only tractor I have ever had, bought 20 years ago indispensable ) and other stuff. Now I am looking for the clip on style wheel weights. I will buy and pay shipping. Up to 70 pounds can be mailed flat rate. Still looking for 8mm brass also.

The use of lead clip on balancing weights is declining.
A few states have banned them.
Zinc and all steel are the replacements.

Don't get stuck with 70lbs of weights you can't use.

(quoted from post at 21:45:46 02/12/21) They are not for reuse. They are for casting bullets.

I gave up trying to find those lead wheel balance weights after bringing home a 5 gallon bucket, only half full, and most of them were either zinc or plastic. Totally unuseable. Now I just buy what I need from Roto-Metals.

Richard, I'm a long time caster too. I still have 2 or 3 5 gallon buckets of OLD WW, from the 70's I'm hoarding. These days, unless you can find a scrapper or old garage with good old WW you may as well bite the bullet (pun intended) and go to Roto-metals and order what you need. The shipping is a killer no matter what you do, but at least with Roto you get clean alloy of a know composition. No problems with zinc or aluminum contamination, etc. Casting isn't cheap anymore.

I'm active over on The Art and Science of Bullet Casting. Stop by and take a look.

Shipping costs is why I haven't ordered from Roto. I can get enough material to keep me busy by scavanging bullets at a spot where many people go shoot in a dry lake bed. Most bullets are intact
because it is a dry lake bed and the banks are soft sand. I will look into the reloading site you suggested. Thank you.

An order of $99 will get you free shipping.

I didn't know that! Not hard to get up over $100 in anything anymore.

It comes in 5 pound ingots. I order 10 at a time which is 50 pounds, packed in a large, flat rate box. I sympathize for the postal workers, but my mail carrier has never complained.

Walking in to work last week, I talked with a coworker about casting weights for Big Lake fishing- one of the things I inherited from a tool maker Uncle is a large steel plate machined to cast lead sinkers.

The coworker commented that he was at work one day when they disassembled one of the old exit radiation monitors, and his buddies filled the bed of his Ranger with the lead shielding. He's got over a thousand pounds still. You might check with a local scrap yard for medical X ray machines or similar stuff...who knows?
