Lincoln 225 welder

Anybody have one? Good bad? Mainly looking at it for tig. Want to learn to do aluminum and thin sheetal. Does water coming improve performance/duty cycle or just a gimmick?

Thanks.

For hobbyist or light duty work, water cooling is not necessary. Especially if welding thinner materials. For production work it is an absolute must have.

Biggest benefit for general use is that you can run a smaller torch with water cooling.

oesn't sound like one of the Lincoln's that comes with high frequency. You need high frequency to do aluminum. Also, that would be a scratch start, which requires a lot more expertise.

Well that makes sense then. You need high frequency plus a hot start. I just ordered an inverter welder for 99.99. Was looking at them on Amazing and some said Tig also. I'd like to do some aluminum welding. But when I read further down it said it did Tig but not for aluminum. That had me scratching my head as I did a giggle search on tig and aluminum and didn't see any reason why that one wouldn't. So apparently Tig isn't always Tig.

Plenty of great work has been done on air cooled torches. Water cooling does increase duty cycle a bit but I would still stick to the original specs and not push it . I water cooled my Synchrowave with a 300 dollar Made in USA unit from ebay. Weird but the water goes through the hot lug of the welder. I was trying to feed gas there Good thing I called Miller. Tech guy said I would not be the first to have water squirt out the gas line. Lucky I got straitened out .To water cool you must deal with a lot of special left hand thread fittings and a special lug . You also must purchase a new torch for water .

t might be that the machine doesn't have AC. Tig welding on DC is for steel, s/s, iron, etc. AC is for aluminum and magnesium.

Sorry, but there is a heck of a difference between a Lincoln 225 and a Lincoln 225 Tig. KInda like people calling in and saying send me a tip for a Lincoln welder. Tell a parts guy you need parts for a JD #10

Didn't realize they had both a 225 and 225 tig. Guess I should say a lincoln precision 225 tig.

Just as a suggestion, you may want to look at ESAB’s Rebel line. Might be a little lower price with better duty cycle.

I’ve been looking at some similar machines, kinda leaning towards a Miller, but the ESAB is a close second. (Lincoln doesn’t offer exactly what I am looking for.)
