Has finally given out on me. I couldn't seem to get it working so I had a fella who specializes in them have a look. Testing reveals that it has a leaking crank seal. It will run a bit but not well enough to use. I had bought a new Stihl in the meantime so that I could do firewood while this was sorted out. He told me it could be fixed, but expensive if I had someone do it. I bought this saw with the help of Sheridan Auction Service just shy of 30 years ago at a sale about ten miles from here. The fella cut wood and sold it as a sideline. It came with a case, about ten extra chains, chain sharpener and a (I don't remember how) long bar for $170. I would guess maybe 20" bar. The bidding ended with "sold, and thank you for coming to the auction!" Auctioneer lingo for you paid too much. I disagree. I showed it to my good neighbor back in the woods and he adjusted the carb a little. After that it ran without anything more than a new filter for the entire time I owned it...until now. I am told I can part it out for more than I paid for it, but I have a lot of history with it and thinking it is hurting nothing sitting on the shelf. So there it will stay for now. Those old Stihls are nice saws.

I have one of those I bought new. Has not had much use especially the last 20 + years ?
The only thing I never liked about it was the weight.

Crank seals are not costly, purchase a complete gasket set for your 032, about a haft day job & well worth repairing.

You got nuthin to lose. Get the parts and play with it. You said ya bought another so you don't have to be in a hurry. And if ya need help, YouTube is your friend. Good Luck.

Pretty much everything that has been going thru my mind...seals not expensive, get a manual, nothing to lose...If I get all the stuff together there might just be a day I decide to dig into it.

You may be able to change the seals in that without completely dismantling the engine. Certain stihl applications list 2 different seals depending on whether or not you are splitting the crankcase. I'm not sure if that option would apply to your saw or not.

My dad bought 0n 032av in 1974. It cut a little fire wood and then sat for 20 years. I still have that saw today and it runs great. It is a stihl that is made in West Germany.

Not that big a job.

Go for it, once you get to dismantling it, and finding all the embedded grunge, you'll be more than happy to do a complete tear down and thorough cleaning!

At least that's how my OCD mind works! LOL

I bought mine along with a beautiful stainless steel heavy barreled .22 when I first bought the farm in 1993 . The saw has never missed a beat except for a faulty ignition module changed at 6 months . It's cut ten of tons of timber and felled more dead trees than I can recall . Recently it needed a new air filter and fluid caps , just normal wear .
Sadly the government took away my .22 , no semi autos allowed here anymore .

Yes, IF they are available for that saw get the seals made for repairs without splitting the saw. They cost more but save lots of time.

I'm truly sorry for your loss. Corrupt gov'ts have a long history of taking arms from the people they rule.

Well you can always join a caravan and come here. Go to the right state and own all the guns you want. They will give you free health care and all kinds of other benefits. Can't guarantee they won't try to take your guns here someday.

Guns? What guns? I ain't got no guns!

Remember that phrase. I wouldn't tell my own brother if I owned a gun. I watched a webinar yesterday about bots being used to look for keywords in (anti)social media. You can be sure that I have no guns on the premises.
