I have had a special bit for my air hammer for a long time just forgot about it. I have 99 Tahoe in the shop needs all the brake lines so last thing Thursday night I make sure I can break all the bleeders loose one is stuck : ( I am about to grab the induction heater heat it and call it a night and remember that bit. It amazed me how ease it broke free...

While rambling, I have a 96 Chrysler Sebring in the shop a no start a mechanics nightmare : ( It ended up being a bad fuel pump the pump is a walk in the park to change they have a access panel under the rear seat. They don't get any easier that that.

That's what aircraft mechanics call a "screw knocker" or "woodpecker tool". It fits into a pneumatic rivet hammer (preferably) or chisel driver.

The screw knocker comes in two flavors, one with a handle to put torque on the driver -- and thus the screw being removed -- and the other with a hex shank to take a wrench.

Then there's another two variants, one type has a square drive lug to take a socket, the other having an internal hex (usually 5/16 inch) to take a screwdriver bit. The big problem with the latter type is simply that 5/16 hex driver bits are A WHOLE LOT less common than 1/4 hex driver bits.

Over the past few years, auto mechanics have caught on to screw knockers . . . to the point that auto tool and parts suppliers are offering their versions. Think tool-wagon brands, Lisle, Mayhew, Summit Racing, and Jegs.

And, of course, the aircraft tool suppliers offer them.

I mail ordered mine from The Yardstore, in Wichita, Kansas.

It's worth adding that it's a good idea to turn the air pressure down, to 25 or so psi, when using a screw knocker. Especially if trying to remove the seized screws holding a cover plate or fairing panel from an aircraft.

If you look through the Garage Guru area on You Tube they have both part numbers listed in the video. Quite impressive

Looking at the first picture, I take it that you are trying to turn it with the wrench while
rattling it?

It has the engine it was born with, he has another I replaced the engine in it. He knows most anything will send them to their grave. His kids drive them till they can do better (get out on their own)...

Its debatable if I would start my life doing this again... Its not much different than other trades some of the work you dread : ( BUT when you get between your tool box and the front bumper it falls into place. There are days you question what you do then a kill comes along to remind ya how good it can be.

If my health holds out I doubt I will ever quit, I have slowed down. Its nice to be able to turn work you don't want to do away : )

Lets start over, electric cars will clean the landscape of old-timers I can see good money in repairing them for the next generation. I think they do very well at it...

If you see someone with pencil fingers with wrists and arms to match plus have the strength of Hercules along with an engineering degree, then they are a born auto mechanic. Along the lines of a Roswell alien and they may be behind the design of new cars.

You can sure say that again . I wonder if some of this stuff is
backwards engineered from Roswell ? You are right there are
bad parts to any job but it is nice when you figure out
something you didn’t think you ever would
