Bought a set of standards

For my micrometer set I found a used set Mitoyu on eBay hopefully they’ll prove worth the money got a pretty good deal on them . Once they get here I’m going to break these cheap ones apart I almost bet we’ll find they aren’t even a solid shaft

No but they are not straight you can rotate them and get different readings . I can measure the same piston over and over come up with the same thing every time

Are you holding the standard exactly in line with the mic anvil and spindle? Most quality standards have a slightly rounded end. So measuring it anyway but in line may give varying results.

I’m finding out that you Can play with them a little a get varying results but with a little care you can also get repeat results as well . Been a lot of years since I’ve played with micrometers

I think I am going to get a little pony vice to clamp to my table so I can hold the standard straight and get it in the sand position every time

I agree. It's hard to hold the mic and the standard correctly with one hand.
