Block heater extension cord question

For the life of me I cant figure this cord out. I plug it in to a tested power source and no power at opposing end. I think the metal disc maybe senses cold or sits against heater hose?? I cant find it on the net. Its says Temro model 2900009 PAT. 1982 Made in Canada on it. Anyone here use one and how does it work please?

Looks like a good idea! Some GM block heater cords have a thermostat built right into them, and if you cut it off and put a regular plug on
it then you can confuse the computer. I did that, and had to disconnect the battery for 2 minutes to reset it.

Use an ordinary extension cord instead of that silly thing. It won't turn on the block heater until the temperature drops below 0F.

I've never seen a block heater extension cord like that. It almost looks like you zip tie it to a water pipe or something....maybe
its for plumbing. Does it work if you take it outside and get it cold or put it in the freezer?

The block heater Cords on our vehicles had the built in thermostat inside the plug .
Cut the thermostat off them all and installed male plugs that glow when plugged in .

I "reached out" (as they say today) and emailed Customer Support at Zerostart and today got the following reply:

"Hi,

That part number was obsoleted from our system 15 years ago. There won’t be an application for that anymore.

Thanks,

So there you have it, the folks that made it don't even know what it's for, anymore! LOL!

might cut OFF the line with it warms up. so at cooler temps is on and when its around 40 or 50, its cuts off???

Thank you for the research and info. My first wife's grandfather had a mechanic shop. I remember now this cord came from his unbought stock that was left over from his shop. I'm using a regular cord till I have time to test cord. Maybe today. Its -14C today.
