Power washer

I have been researching for a gas powered pressure washer. Can not afford a hotsie. Was told to never let the pump run very long when not spraying. This will ruin pump pressure fast. Is this true? Thank you.

I've read 30 seconds tops. It's because the water under pressure with no place to go gets really hot. I try to never go over 10 seconds.

Yes, if you have an electric power washer(from my experience) you can ran power washer at any time.

Something with a three piston ceramic piston pump rated for hot water .
120F water form the house water tap does an amazingly effective job.

Yep, that is the problem. The relief valve will open, but the water is just recirculating and getting hotter every pass.

Most models will have that caution in the owners manual. Just pay attention to the time specified.

Some models even have a temperature relief that dumps water when it gets too hot, but those are rare.

My 2500lb. gas power washer has a pump that is filled with oil and it just by passes when not pumping. Never had a problem.

Thank you all. Now I will look for a power washer with 3100 psi and 2.8 gpm. Also a brand that I can get repair parts.

Yes, the pump gets hot and the thermal valve has to trip open. I let a 5 HP Kracher run a bit to clean out the carb. The pump bolts loosened and it spit out the seals. Its hard to put something together when you didn't take it apart. Finally found a parts diagram online and put the seals in correctly, and its all better now.

Mine is cold water only, but make sure to look for oil drain plug. I purchased a 3000 psi Troy Built. Manual says to change oil. However, it did not say washer must be turned upside down to drain oil out of fill tube. Dealer said I needed to spend another $200 to get another brand with oil drain plug.

I bought an electric powered Hotsie a couple of years ago. Well worth the cost.

I have an electric powered washer and paid extra for pressure shut off switches. When you stop the spray the high pressure switch shuts off the motor. As soon as you pull the trigger it starts up again. Well worth the extra cost.
