ECHO SRM 225 TRIMMER

Always had Stihl and still do , but was given this Echo. It seems to be a decent trimmer. It came with a head that has 3 plastic type blades. I like the blades , but they are too short--maybe 4 inches long. Can a guy get longer blades????

I have tried all kinds of string for my Stihl and have never found any that I felt was any good. Bought the biggest Dia. they sell and still very unhappy with it. I cut some tough stuff and the string just doesn't hold up. Trying some now that is kind of a triangle and it is junk. Love my Stihl equipment, but the string for my trimmer just isn't doing it for me...Any ideas????

What size line are you using? I use .105 on mine and it has a solid wire in the center of it and works very well for me. I don't recall the brand it is right now. The only problem I've had with the plastic blades is they seem to break easily. And I use Stihl myself.

yES THE CUTTING DIAMETER IS TOOOOOOOOO small....Can a guy make something that is longer????? Don't think you can buy any longer blades......

Just have to look around for some longer blades, if they will fit.

But I have a feeling the longer blades may have too much wind drag. I know getting too much string out doesn't work because it can't wind it up fast enough.

The black head diameter the blades mount to is smaller on the 130 than the old 86 and the 86 head cam be adapted to the 130 but the old style head is no longer available. Dealer did order me a larger head but won't fit the 130 gear box. I wore out 3 heads on the 86 and I should have purchased more spares. They did make the new replace blades longer and they work best for me on the 130 with an old style head.

I have several echo products and like them all. Try echo's black diamond line. I use it on a 225 with good results. It works good at slower speeds. Run the machine wide open and it breaks like the others.

I have an Echo trimmer that was given to me about 7 years ago. Never fails to start and run. I would switch out the plastic blades for string. Overall a good little trimmer. Should serve you well

I know of a guy that took an old chain saw bar and cut out a blade and fashioned it much like a lawn mower blade. He only cut grass and I mean he cut grass. I can't imagine what it would do if you dug it in to something with some substance. I'm sure that would not pass safety standards today or back then! Not recommending this but it cut!

The SRM 225 is the smallest trimmer Echo offers. Unless it is an S model it will have a twisted wire shaft (straight or curved). They are not built to use steel blades, large heads nor large diameter line above .095. If you wish to use anything larger. Keep an extra drive shaft on hand for when yours breaks at the gear box or clutch.

Take your trimmer, install a Husqvarna T 25 head with plain round .080 line and it will surprise you at what it will do. Echo has a good design on their fast loading heads. But they waste to much line by feeding out line nearly every time it touches the ground and it takes away a lot of power just to keep them spinning.

Wasting your money on twisted, square, triangle or any other "mircical shaped" line. For all it does is heat up and welds itself together inside of the trimmer head or fuses to the eyelets. Local hardware store has shelves and bins full of the stuff that they can't even give away.

I walked into my local Kubota, Simplicity, Stihl, and Echo dealer over 20 years ago. I wandered around a couple minutes, salesman asked if he could help me, I asked for a straight shaft HD Stilh string trimmer by the model number. Salesman asked, "Is it O-K if I save you $130?" I said Yes, he brought me an Echo trimmer with all the features the Stihl had. Stihl had running issues with their trimmers about that time many many complaints. I started spraying Round-Up about then, bet my first spool of string lasted 10 years. I gave it to SON, and it suffered a harsh life, think it might have been his ex-wife, or maybe it was him. He finally trash-canned it and bought a Milwaukee Fuel 18V trimmer.
But the 19.2V Craftsman trimmer I bought the Wife she didn't like, only used it to trim weeds along the road, wouldn't trim around the shop, or trees etc where the mower wouldn't fit, wouldn't touch the old Echo to save her life. So I bought MYSELF an SRM 225, it starts and runs great, balance is fine, refilling the spool is a snap! Only complaint I have is I have 200-300 feet of expansion joints in my concrete driveway I have to mow several times a summer and tapping the head on the concrete wears the head out in a hurry, but I keep a entire new head on hand. Extending the line on grass is fine. The primer bulbs on the Echo and my Stihl leaf blower seems to help them start quicker, wish my Stihl saws had them too.
Speaking of Stihl, my 22-23 year old Stihl 025 saw started running lean, wouldn't idle about 3 years ago. Checked the local dealer, $75/hr labor, went and bought a brand new MS250. Ran it ONE TIME, went to cut something a week later, pulled that danged rope till my arms about fell off, tossed saw in car and drove the 20 miles to dealer, he finally got it started, leaned it out a bit, it starts a little better but not as good as the old 025 did. Bought a new Chinese carb and waiting for SON to need a project. Won't surprise me if he tells me NO.
