Generator Shaft Repair

Any ideas on who/how to fix a worn rotor shaft from a Honda 5000w generator?
I just went through and freshened up the engine and fixed up some gremlins it had so it's running great now. The problem is the rotor shaft is worn down to where there is some space between it and the bearing it rides in. Would an electric motor shop be able to fix something like this? I am guessing it will take some machining to get things nice and straight so as not to have future issues.

IF you take the shaft and bearing to a bearing shop, there may be a Speedy Sleeve to install on the worn shaft inside the bearing, depending on how badly it is worn.

I thought about that but when I measured it, not only is it worn down, but it's also slightly tapered from the wear. I don't imagine a sleeve would work unless it was machined straight. The shaft is worn down as far as 0.035" under size at the worst spot.

A good machine shop can spray metal on the shaft to build it up and then machine it down again, we used to do it frequently in the paper mill. I expect it will be expensive to have done. I had a similar situation on my snow blower last year, but it was only a few thou. under, so I staked it and installed a new bearing over some JB Weld, seems to be OK. We used to use an industrial product called Belzona to do the same thing.

Have the shaft turned down to the next smaller ID and use a different bearing. They are metric, and standard. Jim

I would turn the shaft down and use a different bearing as has been already suggested. If no bearing is available then turn the shaft down, press a thin wall bushing on,
it can have several thousands interference fit as it will stretch, then turn it to be a press fit into the bearing. the bearing being a press fit will help with holding
the bushing on. You could also use loctite on the bushing when installing it but probably it isn't necessary.
