kohler generator

Had a Generac. Replaced it with a Kohler 14RESAL and RXT transfer switch. Generator worked fine for a year. Now says comm error with transfer switch. Transfer switch board has power light on and led 3&4 blink 3 times then repeat. How can I tell if it is the generator or transfer switch? When you kill the utility power nothing happens. Unit exercises and runs fine. I have heard all the bad about Generac but Kohler is not proving much better. To much electronics.

How do you know the electronic are at fault ? They could be operating perfectly and the failure be elsewhere. have you checked for voltage at all the contacts when both open and closed ?

Generator runs manually and exercises on time. I have 12v on the RXT board which comes from the generator. No communication between the two. I'll admit, I haven't checked the continuity on the comm lines yet but very unlikely they are at fault. Generator and the transfer switch are a couple hundred feet apart. Have had a lot of lightning lately.

To much electronics. Is why I don't mess with the new units. Much to easy to knock the system down.Things you might try.

Remove the battery. For a few minutes then hook it back up.
Some times that will reset the system.

Try to reprogram the system.

Call Kohler support.

Agree with Billy.

Call Kohler support. They will assist you.

Getting ready to call them myself as I want to update the firmware in mine (again) and need the files.

I am purty sure it is the transfer switch, everything, seems to be working fine. transfer switches have been problems for a few years, the board is telling you that it is not seeing the incoming electric power, the other part of board, says that it does see the power, you should be able to pull the meter or switch to the incoming power, so no power is going to gen, now what happens, the gen should come on, if not the transfer switch is bad.
