Whats a boring bar worth

I am curious what a boring bar is valued at today, does anyone still use them or just an old tool from the past ??

The value of a boring bar depends on it length, diameter, and material as well as whether it takes an insert. A solid carbide with a large diameter and length is much more valuable than a HSS with less diameter and length. Many people have gone to carbide bars with carbide inserts as they combine the stiffness of the carbide with the flexibility of the type of insert.

Really don't know what you are referring to. I have boring bars for my lathe. I also have a line boring machine to bore arms on loaders and backhoe buckets. There are line boring hones for engine blocks.Boring machines to bore cylinders in engine blocks. I have welded a lot of pipe together to bore water and sewer lines under roads. Need a little more info.

If you are referring to one for boring engine blocks a lot would depend on condition. Also you need the associated tooling. One in good shape with all the tooling I would guess between $1000-$1500. I would not sell my Van Norman for that, but I have seen them at swap meets for that price range. I traded a small bock Chevrolet engine for mine and it came with a training session.

Are you referring to a horizontal boring mill? An “HBM”

Manual ones, price varies greatly.

Cnc ones, ditto - late model have demand, old ones don’t bring what you would think. Expensive to rig and move, either way.
