Electrical contact cleaner....

I'm wondering what a good cleaner would be for cleaning battery corrosion out of a battery holder. It isn't much. Would prefer something pro strength & safe for use with older electronics. I'm cleaning up the battery contacts in the power grip for my medium format camera & really don't want to mess anything up. That camera is still quite expensive & can't afford a replacement. Parts are becoming a pain to find. Oh, I do have some soldering work to do when it's clean, so I would rather not have anything that might react with the flux.

Thanks,
Mike

If the battery was alkaline (based, not acid based) I would use vinegar on a tooth brush, then baking soda to neutralize that, then rinse/brush/rinse. If acidic reverse the process. Jim

Many professionals consider the products from Caig Laboratories to be the best available. They are high priced but yield excellent results. I have used their Deoxit D series spray for 30 years.

I had thought about that. What worries me is getting any of the vinegar, baking soda or rinse water in the grip itself. Would really like to keep the motor & gear drive safe. I found & removed five screws & still can't get it apart. Haven't found any disassembly instructions yet. There must be locking tabs on the inside, but I don't want to go poking around just yet & risk ruining the tabs.

Make sure any contact cleaner you buy is "plastic safe" or you will be buying new plastic that it comes in contact with. Plastic safe will likely cost more but you don't want to by mistake hit some plastic with the wrong stuff. Did it only once and the plastic of a micro switch disintegrated.
