Was gonna cook out today, lit the grill, realized later it wasn't heating,Tank empty. I had a tank sitting from last year in the shed, brought it out and hooked it up, nothing, no fire. I know it has some gas in it from the weight, not full by any means, but not empty, either. Is there any reason the tank won't work just from sitting several months?

Make sure there's no restriction in the tank valve. Also look to be sure that the pin on the regulator is making contact with the valve so when you thread the coupler onto the tank it will open the valve.

The new valves have a auto shut off device inside.

If it senses excess flow, it thinks there is a leak and shuts the flow down to a trickle.

Sometimes when starting with an empty regulator and line, it will false trip.

Do check for bug nests, and try it again. Once connected, very slowly open the valve, see if it has reset.

I have found that turning the gas off and then back on several times gets that safety valve working correctly.

Be it an oxygen tank, acetylene tank, or a propane tank, I always open the valve on the tank briefly before I connect the hose.

Mud dauber nest in the valve. No mater what you find(may not have tightened the adapter tight enough either)with a pair of gloves on,open the tank valve and stick a Phillips screw driver in the center and hit it with the palm of your hand to open the safety and blow out what ever is in there. LP is cold and that is what the gloves are for.

I agree with Steve. I have one that if I turn the valve on to fast it will trip the safety device and no gas, I have to open the valve real slow.
