Well pump limit switch?

I've got a new well with all new equipment to supply water.

If I run the shower, sink faucet, or flush toilet everything works fine. If I use an outside faucet or start the clothes washer, the pump will miss the low limit and I have to restart it with the lever on the limit switch.

It is a 30-50 psi Square D switch. When it works correctly it starts at 29 and off at 49, so it is set pretty close. The bladder in the tank had 30 psi when I checked with a dial type gauge which I trust to be pretty accurate. I lowered the bladder pressure to 27 psi.

I'm wondering if the limit switch is bad.

Thanks to any helpful replies.

Your cut in pressure should be about 5 psi above the tank pre-charge. If not it will tank will empty before the pump starts and give you a momentary pressure drop. And those little plastic gauges most have are not very accurate.

More than likely you are running out of water in your well, when the flow cannot be maintained the pressure will fall below the low limit and the pump shuts off, this is to save the pump or in the event of a major water leak, prevent flooding.

You could also have a leak or restriction some where in the line from the pump to the tank that is preventing water from making it to your holding tank fast enough to match the flow at the outlets.

I agree with Steve, leave the pre-charge alone, set the pressure a little higher. What was the well tested at after it was drilled? And is it a submersible pump?

What size of pump , water lines , type of well and where is the pump ? What size is the pressure tank ? Wondering if it is too small ?
I have the differential set one turn from max and the low pressure one turn from minimum . Runs 20-60psi . Only time the low pressure safety kicked in was when the power went out .

Thanks for the comments, I think WE have it fixed!

Right or wrong here is what I did: Lowered bladder pressure to 25 psi. That did not help. Then raised both the cut in/out a little bit. That did the trick.

It now cuts in about 31.5 psi and off at 53. After the pump hits high limit, the gauge falls slowly to 50 then holds.

I'm not trying to snub the posters that asked questions that I did not answer. It is a submersible pump, Wellxtrol WX-202 tank, would have to look up the gallons.

I may try to increase the bladder pressure closer to the cut in just to see how much I can raise it before the problem comes back.

It's hard to find a tire pressure gauge that agrees with the water gauge, so here's how I do it. Turn off the power so the pump wont start, then while watching the water gauge slowly bleed off the water. When the switch clicks, the gauge should slowly go down another 2 psi and then quickly drop to 0.
